Following a cascade drop of singles that kept everyone on their toes this past couple of months, time has come to unveil Fabian Krooss' eagerly awaited debut long-player, 'Colorfuel'. A portmanteau word for the vivid colourful spectrum that infuses Krooss' blends and that role of energetic provider it plays, 'Colorfuel' oozes a vibrant mix of dance floor-ready dynamism and effervescing curiosity, packed with surprises at every corner. Completed and finished in the Autumn of 2023, Krooss' debut album takes you on a smooth journey from start to finish, showing the variety in his productions, spanning from melancholic to uplifting, playful to funky and deep to chill. Starting with the soulful 'Oh Darlin', Krooss steers us on the path of laid-back Chicagoan rhythms and feelgood Afro soulfulness, weaving solar-powered sensitivity with vaporous floor dynamics to hypnotic effect. A further balmy slice of atmospheric electronica tinged with hints of dream-pop and balearic house, "Staring" cruises at its own tranquil pace across colour-shifting horizons and gently jagged reliefs. For the past ten years now, I’ve celebrated my birthdays by inviting all my favorite cats to play – we started off at Kater Holzig before moving to our home at Kater Blau in 2015. For the first time since it started, and for obvious reasons, 43 Katzen tanzen auf’m Tisch won’t be happening, on what would have been the tenth anniversary of the series.
I’ve been wondering for a while now how I can make up for the missed year - streams already feel a bit outdated, and you just can’t imagine the vibe of the event without actually being there, getting beautifully lost in those days and nights, hugging old friends and making new ones. You can’t even explain that feeling, so you definitely can’t live-stream it.
Instead, this year 43 Katzen tanzen auf’m Tisch will be a compilation of some of the amazing artists from the past ten years, and even some of the new faces I would have booked this year. In a way, it’s the perfect souvenir of all the nights we’ve had so far, and an idea of what to look forward to in all the nights to come at Kater Blau somewhere in the future.
The compilation will be split into two sections: Heinz Hopper and Acidbogen, reflecting the two floors of Kater Blau, each with their own special flavor and sound. The whole record is programmed the way I would schedule the artists across the two floors for my birthday, warming up at the start before things start getting more intense later on. I guess you could say it’s a concept album, in which the audience wanders into our lovely little circus on the river Spree, and experiences one of my birthdays from start to finish, split across both floors of Kater Blau.
Much like my parties and my sets, the idea is for the listener to get lost in these tracks and to experience them as a whole piece. At the end of it all you leave with a feeling that maybe, just maybe, cats & music were the answers after all. Even in times like these.

‘Music is my anchor, my passion, my favorite form of expression’, Fabian says, adding: ‘I want to surprise’. It’s this belief in freedom that drives his work as an artist, unafraid to experiment and craft a profoundly personal sound in the process. A juxtaposition often sits at the heart of his tracks, as Fabian sprinkles lush or mischievous melodies over springy, sometimes elastic and other times static rhythms, nodding to organic and minimal house at once. It’s Fabian’s deep-rooted feeling for sound that fuse these disparate motifs into an irresistible whole as his productions unfold and flourish with intricate details and surprising touches, always united under a tight groove.

All of these addictive attributes are equally omnipresent when Fabian helms the booth – with a nonchalance rooted in pure joy that’s perceivable in an instant. Here, again, he intrinsically becomes the storyteller, weaving an authentic narrative while turning the room upside down. Whether that’s with a sunny selection at Sisyphos Strand, peak-time power at Bucht der Träumer, Wilde Möhre or Feel Festival or a dubbed-out affair for Afterhour Sounds. While by no means a recent presence in Berlin with past gigs at favourites like Kater Blau, Sisyphos, or Ritter Butzke, the last years took Fabian further afield to festivals like The Monastery, Bucht der Träumer, Feel, scene highlight ADE or shows around the world in Oaxaca, Tulum, Zanzibar, New York, Miami, Washington, Seattle, Istanbul, Amsterdam and many more.
