The story of the Garden of Eden is about shame, but not so much about sin, at least not in the sense of explaining the cosmic origins of sin. Rather, it's a description of the way that our shame instincts of hiding and blame cut us off from healing and push us into distrust.  Healing comes from the willingness to be vulnerable and accept forgiveness.
