Will Beeley came up in the Austin music scene of the 70’s with contemporaries like Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle and Guy Clark.

Beeley recorded '1970 Sessions' as a follow up to his debut, Gallivantin', in 1970 in San Antonio, TX. Never released until now, the album was used as an audition tape for interested labels. Beeley would eventually sign to Malaco Records. 

Tompkins Square reissued Beeley's 70's albums Gallivantin' and Passing Dream in 2017. Beeley returned to the studio with producer Jerry DeCicca (Larry Jon Wilson) in 2018 for his first album in 40 years, Highways & Heart Attacks). Recorded by 5-time Grammy winner Joe Trevino (Los Lobos, Flaco Jimenez) and mixed by Stuart Sikes (Loretta Lynn's 'Van Lear Rose', Cat Power), Highways & Heart Attacks also features The Mavericks' Michael Guerra.

Released on June 4th, the second single from Nova Soon's forthcoming home-recorded sophomore LP is 'Telling The Bees': a dark, minor-bluesy, alt-country shuffle, propelled by jazzy double bass, handclaps & descending guitar riffs. Inspired by the titular tradition — where beekeepers would whisper secrets to their hives, hoping the bees would one day lead them safely to heaven in exchange — the lyrics follow a city girl called Holly on her odyssey through a mythic countryside where 'the river listens' & 'the shadows frown', all to eavesdrop on a local preacher's hiveside confession. Before we discover what he whispered, or why it 'made her blood freeze', a ghostly outro of piano, trombones & synth pads sweeps both Holly & the listener away — 'down to paradise'.

Holly took a train from the edge of town, out where the river listens and the shadows frown. She'd heard about the telling of the bees: a country tradition older than memory. Keepers sneak out from their sons and wives, once every quiet evening of their quiet lives, and speak their secrets to the humming hives; to buy safe passage down to paradise. Garden Cities of Tomorrow

I wrote Perfect Girl because I was frustrated about the things I felt I had to be and had to change to "make it" in the music industry - much of which I didn't have access to as a working-class woman, and an image I didn't want to portray anyway. It reverberated into expectations across relationships in my life, both platonic and romantic, with expectations placed upon me and pressures I placed upon myself to live up to some kind of ideal.
