With ADE looming on the horizon, it only seemed apt for Ram to yet again provide the perfect drum and bass entrée for Europe’s premium dance event. Set to bring another stellar line up from their roster, this compilation packed full of exclusives helps to epitomise the imprint’s legacy within dance music. Including brand new cuts, demonstrating the Ram’s longevity, this album plays homage to two decades of output. 

Leading you deeper into the dark side of 2015, this year’s Ramsterdam compilation not only pedestals the artists who’ve made such a titanic impact throughout the last ten months, but also the emerging talent from sister label Program and Ram’s newest signees. Whether it’s the old school, growling riddim from Aggressor Bunx, or Calyx & TeeBee’s tell-tale, trembling bassline, each track gives the album a unique vantage point.

Featuring on the collosal track listing is Delta Heavy; an exclusive which relays their elevating, pumping composition, it’s a dancefloor banger sure to detonate any crowd. And Frankee also makes a welcomed return, following the release of his anticipated single ‘Downtown’. ‘Raptor’ is unforgiving, snapped up by different animalistic samples and stridently aggressive – pedestalling Frankee’s unforgiving production standards.

On a totally different vibe, Freek is back with ‘Born Different’, a clanking yet powerful number, one which gears up into LFO-lead chaos with snapping percussion between each break. Brand new music from production outfits Teddy Killerz and Mind Vortex also make a very valuable addition, proving their unbridled talent, with merciless yet complex records that are fierce and gagging to be let loose on Amsterdam’s clubs.  

Two of this year’s most resounding tracks from the Ram camp, Bensley’s ‘Aftermath’ and Gerra & Stone’s ‘L.I.E.S.’ have also received revamps, providing two anticipated VIPs already igniting sets worldwide. Loadstar also deliver the goods; brand new heavy-hitter ‘Dune’ demonstrates exactly why they’ve become such revered names across the genre.

Upgrade storms back into your speakers quicker than King Kong climbs a skyscraper in Rampage with ‘The Godzilla EP’. Released under the legendary Serial Killaz label, this is sure to provide enough heavyweight artillery to mash down any dancefloor.

‘Godzilla’ kicks things off with a huge climbing bassline, haunting robotic vocals and a wicked snappy snare. It’s an ideal DJ intro tool that sets the scene from the first 4 bars and gets to work quick time. ‘Trumpets’ brings Middle Eastern vibes and nasty sliced up bass stabs which really enforces the power of Upgrade’s production techniques. ‘Sixty Nine’ is one for the hard steppers and those who like to shuffle in the dance. ‘Ganja’ really switches things into a different direction with clever vocal samples that drop into militant beats and bass patterns. To finish things off ‘Dumbo’ ends the EP and will no doubt scatter any remaining ravers across the venue leaving nobody standing.

What you have here is a selection of 5 heavyweight tunes that really do stick with the theme of the EP. Godzilla was one big ass beast that had the power to take down anything in it’s path and this EP is certainly a reflection of this.

#tbt to the year 2000 Empire productions brings you Droppin Beats 004.  This was a time when Toronto was spoiled.  You would walk into a rave and water was dripping from the ceiling.  Everyone in the rave was soaking wet! The soundsystem was heaving.  The MC's were vibing and hyped up.  The DJ's were all trying to outplay each other (friendly competition).  The best word to describe these events would be INTENSE! Big up Shabba & Fearless for hosting the set.  Can't tell you how many times I worked with Fearless as he was practically living in Toronto at one point and I can't lie he's still one of my favourite MC's to work with to this day!  Big MASSIVE shout to Ryan Ruckus who brought such a great energy to the Toronto rave scene.  He brought so many DJ's into the scene while still supporting the veterans.  He had his recipe on lock!  He is missed! This is before DIGITAL anything.. 100% vinyl. Hard to believe this was 15 years ago! Hope this takes you back in time.
