Without further ado, we proudly present the third entry in the DJ MATTY MIX ARCHIVE.  This is one of DJ Matty’s most known and enduring mixes and it’s also the one that solidified his arrival onto the Florida DJ circuit: IN DEEP THOUGHT.  

By 1993, there was already no shortage of DJ’s in Florida and only so many “main room” gigs to go around. As a newcomer on the scene, Matty realized that by casting a wider musical net he could parlay his love of “ambient electronica” into more DJ gigs in the alternate rooms at venues like Simons (The Roof) in Gainesville, Firestone (The Den) in Orlando, Masquerade (The Opium Den at HUMP) in Tampa and perhaps most notably at Ft. Lauderdale Edge (The Patio) where he would often play the night-time into sunrise set.  

IN DEEP THOUGHT was recorded in October 1994 and perfectly captures the mood and energy of what DJ Matty would do in those special spaces —— of what it was like as he skillfully weaved in & out of both the beautiful and the strange. He would even play certain records at the wrong speed to somehow create an even more magical headspace amongst the dancers. We hope this mix resonates just as much for those that were not around during this time, as it does for those of us who were.

This is the third entry in a special archival playlist of DJ Matty being created with the help of his peers and oldest friends to preserve his legacy in the Florida underground. Most of the mixes we’re preparing have never been archived digitally, yet left an indelible impression on anyone who heard them along the way — just like the man himself! We will make sure DJ Matty's greatest mixes have a proper home online for years to come.

Cloud 9 Sound System took inspiration from David Mancuso's New York loft parties and London's Audiophile scene. The collective hosts dance parties in Barcelona creating a space to dance and experience a strong connection to sound, while keeping at heart the undeniable feeling of a true house party. 

The mix in their words: "It's part of a live recording from one of our parties in which we manage to cross through different genres and moods without having to stay on a similar bpm. We follow the ethos of The Loft in which we try to play the entire record as it was intended to be listened to as well as not mixing for a full sensorial experience."
