We will be listening through a soundwalk in Istanbul. Starting from Karaköy ferry station, the route will be Karaköy ferry station --> Haliç Subway Bridge --> İMÇ Bazaar --> Vefa Bozacisi--> Kalenderhane Camii (The Church of Theotokos Kyriotissa) 

During the walk, we will only be listening (**there will be No talking).
You can just show up and listen, or if you would like to record, you can bring your sound recording machine, a notebook to write down, a sketchbook to draw etc.

Afterwards with for those who would like to join, we will be doing a reflection session about our listening experience, listening to one another.
Looking forward to listening with you!

You can take a ferry from Eyüp to get back to Karaköy.

Hassas Sesler Sözlüğü ve Soundinit ekiplerinin düzenlediği atölye çalışması, Performistanbul’un bahçesinde Soundinit tarafından yapılacak farklı dinleme yöntemlerine dair kısa bir bilgilendirme ve Hassas Sesler Sözlüğü üzerine bir sohbet ile başlayacak. Sonrasında bienal mekânlarını esas alan bir rota üzerinde yürünerek tamamen ses odaklı bir keşfe çıkılacak. Konuşmanın olmayacağı bu yürüyüş boyunca katılımcılar duydukları sesleri farklı dinleme yöntemleriyle (semantik, nedensel ve akustik) değerlendirecekler. Seslerin fiziksel özelliklerinin (tizlik/peslik, gürlük, tını, yön, mesafe, mekân, vs.) dikkate alınacağı, çevresel seslerin deneyimleneceği bu yürüyüş, ortak bir değerlendirme ile tamamlanacak. Katılımcıların dikkatini çekmiş olan sesler hafızayla ve dinleme yöntemleriyle ilişkilendirilerek türlü yönleriyle tartışılacak. Belki de yürüyüş sırasında dikkatimizi çeken bir ses, Hassas Sesler Sözlüğü'ne eklenebilecek bir tarife dönüşecek.

Impulse response recorded with binaural microphones and with close hand clapping, only half meter away. The result is you're experiencing that drum is being played half meter away from you but in a cistern.

This project was inspired by my visual work idea: Dropping a strong acid on layered papers and letting them to dissolve and reveal underneath slowly. In order to implement such a work on audio domain, layering is realized with a very steep sloped, brick wall type filter designed in Max/MSP. Only one layer (top) is audible at first. Using a bandstop filter I am cutting frequency interval off which is expanding according to tempo. At the same cutoff frequency the second layer reveals itself by a bandpass filter with the same characteristics. It goes through all layers, all layers is being revealed and also is losing its frequency content to reveal the underneath one at different tempos. Layers of audio are intermingled with changing frequency content over time. It is designed to be a sound installation and run for the duration of an exhibition (days or weeks) with the assigned tempo. Every visitor would experience different spectral content and sound would appear to be almost static for a period they are in the gallery but sound would evolve and change over time. With the selection of different audio recordings and contextual basis of layers, each realization would become a unique work.

A quiet, silent and everything in between musique concrète improvisation.

Fulya Uçanok​ and ​Serkan Sevilgen​ started a project under the umbrella of their initiative Soundinit to focus on microscopic details of sound objects, breadcrumb-like patterns, and the place as a first-class instrument. They find their roots and inspirations in early electroacoustic music, musique concrète tradition, deep listening experiences, chance operations, free improvisation, and minimalism in the use of material with the emphasis of temporal nature of music, importance, and ambiguity of silence. The performance aims to combine the merits of “music” (in a concert hall) and “sound art” (in an art gallery). The audience will have enough time to consume and enjoy the music as time-dependent art which does not necessarily have a distinct start, progression, and end but the performance will be short comparing to a sound installation with the presence of artists experiencing the same sonic atmosphere with the audience and creating sound events real-time.
