Astral Records opens the summer season with a new collaborative project from Far Distance and Atom (IE). With a career that spans the better part of a decade, Far Distance has more than etched his place in electronic music's trend driven underground. Their amalgamation of progressive and melodic house has found a home on Einmusika, Freegrant Music, Perspectives Digital, Somatic and more; while world class DJs Lane 8, Kevin de Vries and Solomun have been regular supporters. Meanwhile, Irish artist Atom (IE) shies away from the public eye, feeling that his identity should not be a role in his music, which explains his relative obscurity, instead wanting the music to be the project's sole focus. A short but meticulous discography is highlighted by releases via Be Free, Future Romance, Univack and Us and Them Records, where his astral sound has flourished. Now, combining their extensive forces for Astral Records, Far Distance and Atom (IE) unveil their collaborative debut 'Harmonious'. Beginning with the trance-inspired monochromes of 'Harmonious', the duo craftsmanship reveals itself, as nostalgic melodies flicker atop titanic kick drums and machine-gun style grooves, eventually leading to a thought-provoking break. Highlighted by a spoken word vocal-sample, its breathy suspense eventually gives way to symphonic synth phrasing, tactfully elevating mood, before devilish mutations spark a euphoric finale. The charged aesthetic continues on companion piece 'Keeps Me Alive'. The duo expounds their lavish future vision here, with obsessive rhythms, sci-fi vocal samples and hyperspace melodies blanketing punishing beats and crunchy grooves. Clever vocal co-actions marry metallic motifs throughout, while a pyrotechnic break preludes a finale of boundless energy that is perfectly dialed for peak time play.
