‘Backfire’ on STMPD RCRDS 

Julian Jordan teams up with STMPD RCRDS’ recent recruit Seth Hills to show the world what the Dutch can do in 2019. 

Following on from the success of Jordan’s recent single Need You, and other monsters like Never Tired Of You, Tell Me The Truth and Glitch with Martin Garrix, Backfire looks set to build on great streaming numbers Jordan has already picked up with his STMPD RCRDS catalogue.

Chunky, thumping house beats breath life into the track, and we’re quickly thrust into a monstrous breakdown of fiery synths, brooding bass ascension and dancehall vocals. The drop slams in with a devilish lead riff, gunshots punctuating the groove phat bass frequencies thumping away beneath. Another ghoulish breakdown teases a plucked filtered riff before an infectious baile beat chops things up. Unusual rhythms collide with distorted sounds for a high-intensity feel. The final drop sends things hurtling over the edge, with darkly-tinged flavour and a groove which will get your neck snapping hard. Unusual, inventive and incredibly potent, it’s one of this year’s freshest tracks so far.

‘Echo’ finally sees the light of day

There’s always something special about a track that’s allowed to marinate and build hype slowly over time. Ever since Seth Hills & Crime Zcene’s storming ‘Echo’ track first appeared in Martin Garrix’s sets months back, fans have been clamouring with hundreds of ‘ID?’ requests every time he plays it.

Receiving another memorable airing in Garrix’s Ultra Miami set, where Seth Hills also jumped on stage during the STMPD RCRDS stage set, ‘Echo’ is finally ready to be unleashed on the world for all to enjoy and use for dancefloor destruction.

Brooding atmospheric layers, gnarly bass and filtered acidic synths conjure a dark mood in the intro that gives a nod of what’s to come. Chattering snare rolls lift us to the drop, where a minimalist groove stutters away with throbbing sub and snapping, crunchy beats. Brief vocal cut-ups and more rhythm to the groove, and the stripped-back structure contrasts with the maximalist sound palette. The distorted acid rises in the breaks over on-beat claps and synth risers before the track again builds and slams us back into the manic groove. It’s an exercise in simplicity and subtlety, taking nods from techno as well as electro house.

The fourth releases on STMPD RCRDS for Seth Hills after the massive Julian Jordan collab ‘Backfire’, this new jam is set to propel this young talent into exciting new reaches.

Seth Hills to release hot new single ‘Infinite’ 
following Ultra Miami premiere

Dutch youngster Seth Hills prepares to release one of his hottest tracks to date for STMPD RCRDS in the form of ‘Infinite’. After first appearing in full in the legendary B2B2B2B set that Seth recently took part in on the STMPD RCRDS stage at Ultra Miami, it’s set to tear up dancefloors across the world.

The track had much more humble and almost accidental beginnings, though. Seth was taking part in the STMPD RCRDS area at Dancefair, an event for aspiring producers that was held in Utrecht in March. He hosted a ‘Masterclass’ in which he demonstrated how he made a track from an initial sketch of an idea. 

Starting with just a chord pattern, the track that would become ‘Infinite’ developed during over the course of this brief session. He realised he was onto something big, and finished it off in his studio as soon as he could. The result is an explosive track that pushes all the right buttons. 

The muted chords begin the track as shimmering, vocal cuts create an atmospheric touch. Pitched down vocals and FX risers amp the track up until it drops into a pummeling bass house groove, with a monstrous lead riff tearing through everything in its way as pumping low end and driving percussion keep the energy high. A euphoric breakdown lays on dreamy keys under a heavy reverb before ticking snare rolls signal the return of the groove. Close your eyes and you can almost smell the pyrotechnics!
