As we cling on to some of the last warm autumn nights, winter is on its way to turn Berlin from gold to grey. Time to turn our gaze toward the other side of the globe, where summer is just about to start, and invite our friend Dave Stuart from Sydney for this month's episode of our podcast series.

Why copy over some spruced up DJ bio from Resident Advisor, when we can just let Dave put it into his own words?

"DJ bios are terrible things... so let me just tell you a few things about myself and we'll leave it at that?

I'm Dave Stuart and im that DJ / Record Store owner & event promoter from Sydney. I've plied my 'craft' through the best & worst times on Sydney's nightlife and im still as passionate about what I do as the night I first set foot in a DJ booth.
Every part of searching for music to stock at our shop, finding tracks to fit in my DJ sets, and figuring out which DJ's to book & when for our events gives me reason and purpose and I enjoy every second of it.

As a DJ I love the deeper dubbier cuts of records, and most of my DJ sets show this side of me, for those of your that like to categorise things via genres then feel free to pigeon hole me as a dj that plays dub techno, minimal house, tech house, deep house, and techno.... so yes all the bollocks. But I try as best I can to adhere to some sound advise that a DJ much better than myself once gave me: “it's not what you play, it's when and how you play it”. And that simple sentence has influenced how I approach my DJing. Aside from playing in Sydney for what seems like forever I regularly visit Europe to play and have been known to play in the usual haunts including: Tresor / Globus, ://about blank , Salon Zur Wilden Renate, Golden Gate, Chalet and Griessmuehle, Secktor – Dresden, & more.

When it comes to events I have been running in parties in Sydney for over a decade and am co- founder of Something Else, which has somehow managed to stay running (mostly in a weekly format) since 2014 but we've been around longer than than in other guises....Something Else has a house & techno vibe and again if you need to know names..... we've had the likes of DJs like; Vlad Arapasu / Ada kaleh, Silat Beksi, Eric Cloutier, Vril (Delsin / Giegling) Patrice Scott (Sistrum), DJ DEEP (Deeply Rooted / Fr), Norman Nodge (Ostgut Ton), Answer Code Request.... you get the idea right?

In 2018 Something Else expanded and opened a record store under the same name, Something Else Records is based in Sydney's suburb of Newtown and is focused primarily on similar sounds that you would find at the Something Else and similar like mind parties around Sydney. Something Else Records proudly carries exclusively electronic music across the house, techno and electro spectrum."

Berlin DJ and producer Thabo was live with Home Again - a journey through the underground house music of one particular year. This month is dedicated to the hidden gems, b-sides, and classic cuts of 1992.

Seth Troxler is one of electronic music’s most instantly recognisable artists. He has carved out his own unique path as a cultural commentator, art curator, restaurateur and entrepreneur. Descended from a family of cowboys and Baptist preachers, Seth is part African-American, with a singular approach to viewing the world through the prism of contemporary music culture.

Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and raised in suburban Detroit, Seth learnt the art of DJing initially from his stepfather (then a college radio DJ) and later from working, at only 16, behind the counter in legendary Detroit record store ‘Melodies & Memories’. It wasn’t until Seth made the decision to explore new horizons in the mid-2000s, moving to Berlin fresh out of his teens (after debuting at Panorama Bar at just 18 years old), that his DJ career really took off.

Since the move from Detroit to Berlin, then settling in London for a number of years, and now with his time divided between Ibiza and Berlin (Round 2), Seth has established himself as one of the world biggest DJs (voted the world’s number one DJ in scene bible Resident Advisor and gracing the front cover of Mixmag three times). He’s equally at home playing to the smoke-filled dance floors of some of the world’s most discerning nightclubs, such as CircoLoco, fabric (London), Nordstern (Basel), The Lux (Lisbon) or Blitz (Munich), as he is headlining the world’s largest festivals, like Glastonbury, Movement, Roskilde or Sonar.

Right from the word go, Seth has been as passionate about food and contemporary art as he is about music, and these two interests have resonated at all points, and in parallel, to his music career. A multi-faceted modern artist: he has held residencies at talismanic music institutions, run numerous record labels, and pursued his own solo recording career (including the recent ‘Play In The Dark’ collaboration with the Martinez Brothers on Crosstown Rebels, and ‘Lumartes’ that kick started CircoLoco Recordings in Summer 2021). Furthermore Seth has found the time to launch the successful Smokey Tails’ restaurant in London, to create and host his own party during the Rio Carnival, and then to stop everything and to take the time out to climb Kilimanjaro for charity.

More recently Seth has focussed his creative energies on his ‘Lost Souls of Saturn’ www.lostsoulsofsaturn.com project, alongside Phil Moffa and further opaque participants, that sits firmly at the intersection between futuristic electronica, contemporary art and technology. In 2019 Lost Souls Of Saturn presented their audio/visual installation Transmission at the Saatchi Gallery in London, after its premiere during Art Basel in Switzerland, and collaborated with the Met in New York and the Fondation Beyeler in Basel in 2021. Lost Souls Of Saturn are currently recording their second album and conducting further experiments in augmented reality and virtual reality, which will be revealed soon.

Extremely well travelled, constantly searching and experiencing, Seth Troxler continues to follow his own unique path.
