Cantor, multi-instrumentista, pesquisador na área de música e professor, este ex-jogador de futebo e militante anarquista se apresenta como um antropófago em seu desejo de deglutir e mastigar tudo aquilo que encontrar de interessante musicalmente falando, e recriar em sua música.

To describe Seu Gaio in one word, you must use the word versatile. 

"Seu Gaio is one of those great musicians who dives into the big pot of Brazilian Popular Music with the purpose of bringing out new interpretations and a vast musical knowledge for his song writing" (Paulo Sa). 

This creative musician from Brazil carries West African heritage but was born and raised in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. He sings, writes songs, and plays a variety of Brazilian and West African percussion and stringed musical instruments. His stage presence is captivating especially when he sings, plays the pandeiro (frame drum), the kamalengoni (harp) and the ten-stringed mandolin. Since he moved to the UK in 2007 he created Clube do Choro UK, Trio Vendendo Peixe and A Oca projects in London, where he also completed Masters in performance at SOAS (2014). 

In 2015 he moved to Cardiff to undertake a performance-based PhD at Cardiff University (2016). Some of his musical collaborations have been with likes of Darius Bruckback, Harouna Samake, Sidike Dembélé, David O’riggns, Chico Chagas, Domas Aleksa, and Carlos Caetano. His instrumental and song compositions have been recorded by artists such as Ferrugem, Clareou, Fundo de Quintal and others. Now he has completed his studies and with the end of lockdown, Seu Gaio can finally get back to the stage to perform and share his Afro-Brazilian musical vibes.
