SubtleSkeptics was conceived whilst William Lam was still in his mother's womb, feeding off of yummy stuff through her umbilical cord and listening to bad Vietnamese pop music through the walls of her abdomen. This idea of a musical community would not be realized, however, for another 19 years until he met Lander Vu at UCLA while both were young students living in the dorms. Looking back on this fateful night, Will recalls walking back from a dining hall and faintly hearing the singing voice of a beautiful girl and acoustic guitar playing somewhere off in the distance. He curiously followed the sound and it brought him to a basement area next to a Delta Terrace elevator. There, he did not find a beautiful girl, but instead ran into a boy named Lander. Thus came the ensuing conversation:

W: "Hey dude, you sing really high."
L: "Haha, yeah"
W: "What are you doing here all alone?"
L: "Trying to pick up chicks. It's pretty easy, you just sing a Jason Mraz song and throw in their names every now and then."
W: "Has it been working?" (Looks around and sees no one in sight but a night janitor)
L: "It's a slow night."
W: "Can I join you? I play the guitar too, maybe it'll help. My ex just broke up with me two weeks ago..."
L: "Go grab your guitar and we can play a Frou Frou song."

And so they played and played and played and played, but only one girl came. This one girl was a Sunset Village RA and she politely asked them to play somewhere else because it was midterms week and people upstairs were complaining. She threatened to write them up if they did not stop pretending to be rockstars next to an elevator. And that is the story of how Will and Lander were forced into finding empty UCLA parking garages to jam in and retreating onto that one site known as YouTube.
