Memory was never meant to last. I understand that now. I try to hold onto the past, but it unspools in my hands, a fragile ribbon of moments degrading with time. Perhaps I was naive to believe that anything remains untouched.

The colors are faded, the details smudged. Were the summers really that golden? Did their laughter really sound like that?

Some memories skip, caught in an endless loop of replay until they no longer make sense. Others have been recorded over, layer upon layer, until I can no longer tell what was real and what was rewritten. And then there are those that simply vanish—wiped clean by time, leaving only an empty silence where something important once lived.

I reach for them, but the reels spin without sound. Nothing is there.

This is what frightens me the most—not that I will forget, but that what remains will be nothing more than an echo, a distortion of the truth, a song played so many times it no longer resembles the original. How much of me is already gone? How much of what I believe is real has already collapsed into static?

A remembrance in sound

Psych Ward Victory is more than a collection of songs — it's a reflection, a rebellion, and ultimately, a redemption.

This album remembers a painful betrayal that spiraled into an involuntary commitment, silenced psychiatry abuse, and a long period of hidden struggle. It’s a sonic memoir of surviving manipulation, isolation, and institutional abuse — but it’s also about the quiet, powerful moments of hope and the people who bring light in the darkest hours.

At the heart of this remembrance is Mariya, a Russian American medical nurse whose kindness and courage carried me through what felt like impossible times. Some said she wasn't real — “too good to be true,” or "Where is this hospital?" they said. Only Rev. Nigel, another very important person in my life, ever met her face-to-face. But whether real, imagined for others, Mariya's presence changed my life. And really, what matters is not what’s “real” for others, but what brings us healing.

The tracks on this informal album come from many old pieces I never thought would see the light. They blend individual harmonies from an arrangement called Ikanaide, emotional echoes from an old original piece called La Vie en Hors de Prix, and electronic textures that carry pain, rebellion, and eventual peace. This isn’t a clean story — it’s a collage, just like memory, just like recovery.

It’s not about labeling people as good or bad, or untangling intentions. What matters is to remember those beautiful moments, the ones where unexpected people offered help in times of chaos — and that sometimes, the most real things are those we cannot explain.
