First edition of the Tape Sessions series. Recorded directly from vinyl to cassette on a rotary Mastersounds valve mixer. Nearly 3 hours of deep and tech house music.

James McKenzie aka DJ Whooshhh is an integral part of the Urban Dubz crew of DJs, bringing in solid live mix shows every week. He is also one half of the production duo Club Connoisseur alongside UK Garage legend Jeremy Sylvester with tracks that bring out the intoxicating and sultry side of Garage.

Whooshhh’s DJing was preceded by an already illustrious career as an MC of Garage, Grime and Drum and Bass. MC Nutcracka was hard at work since 1998 during the early days of pirate radio stations in Birmingham. He MC’d in stations such as Smooth FM, Passion FM (now Hot 92), Sirius FM, Silk City Radio with DJs Dr. Pepper & DJ Jewlsy. At a time when many crews started developing, Nucracka was in crews the Midland Mafia and the Nasty Bros. 

In 2011 he won best breakthrough at a National Drum and Bass awards. Performing all around Europe to this day, he has MC’d for the likes of Goldie, Mickey Finn, Brian G, Dillinger, Andy C, RIP, Fabio and Grooverider.

While flourishing as an MC Whooshhh was secretly fostering his DJing career. Starting in 2002 he practiced on his cousin Lee Banger’s decks and honed his craft playing in different radio stations. “I grew up in the rough streets of Birmingham where music was my escape. Some of my old friends got caught up in a life of crime, some of them are doing long jail sentences now, so that’s where I could say music saved my life. My spinning style is quick, creative, very energetic. Style over hype that’s me.”

He later met Jeremy Sylvester in 2018 at a gig, gave him a mix CD and exchanged numbers. A few weeks later Jeremy called him to come down to the studio and do a guest show. It was history from there where Whooshhh officially became a part of the Urban Dubz family. 

He and Jeremy began working together as the production team of Club Connoisseur, putting out tracks such as “Beer Garden”, “I Love You”, “I’ll be the One Tonight” and “Rude Boy Ting.” You can catch DJ Whooshhh show on Urban Dubz as well as at the next Garage Paradise event at London’s Basing House on Saturday, May 27th.
