Bio:
The Shadow Sect project was born in early 2013 and is the result of the union of two well established musical and human realities, Giulio Ascoli [Former WPL and current owner and administrator of Big Riddim Recordings] and Cristian Pavese [Former DOM/The Anunnaki].
Having met each other during the organization of the Italian Therapy Session chapter, the two
soon discovered important affinities not only in the musical field but also in the personal and
human one. Both grew up in a background oriented mainly on Metal, Hardcore, Metal, Rock and crossover, in addition to a passion for experimental, electronic and avant-garde music,
but divided by the stylistic and working orientations of the time.
Over the years both have affirmed their position in the world scene for their respective genres,
DnB \ Hard DnB for Giulio, Hardcore, Frenchcore for Cris not forgetting the techno rave origins.
2013 marks the conjunction of these two realities but in order to express their shape in the best way
they will have to wait around 2017 when both, having closed their respective contractual obligations with the agencies and labels at the time, decided to take over the Shadow Sect
project and bring it to light focusing 100% of their forces on it.
In just two years Shadow Sect has released over 12 releases with the major and most importantlabels on the world scene such as PRSPCT, EatBrain, Othercide, FutureSickness, Big Riddim Recordings, Close2Death, Hanzom Music and some others, collaborating with the major
exponents of the European and World DnB such as : Dj Hidden, LucyFurr, Gancher & Ruin, Switch Technique, Hallucinator, Delimit, Sinister Souls, Zardonic, Mizo , IHr and The Satan, to name but a few.
Never abandoning the roots that forged the duo, Cris and Giulio attack modern DnB by mixing the
classical old school’s European Neurofunk Dnb with a skillful direction, contaminating it with
artists, atmospheres and arrangements more consistent with their past, therefore of a rock\metalstyle\techno and rave culture. Their productions are rich in sung and instrumental parts to ensure
that the range of audience can be always greater, contributing to the combination of two very
distant musical realities but which if placed side by side give exceptional results.
The counter-proof is the killer release: "STFU" released in late 2020 which sees Cris and Giulio
engaged in a collaboration with the well-known Dutch Rap Hardcore duo Dope D.O.D.
The result, signed by PRSPCT and released in digital and limited edition 7” vinyl is an absolute smash with over 50,000 plays in less than a month to which must be added an RMX VIP of the
same, together with the well-known Italian hardcore Dnb duo Hallucinator, to complete a release as particular as it is explosive.
Immediately after, the debut on EatBrain records with "Genesis" produced in collaboration with
Mizo, which in the first week obtained the first place in the "DnB Releases" chart on Beatport and the tenth place in the DnB general chart, always on Beatport.
Since 2017 in terms of live performances, the “Hellish Duo” is engaged in annual tours with
worldwide coverage. Shadow Sect has performed at historical events such as PRSPCT XL29, Let
It Roll festival, Fortune Festival, Purge Weekender, various European club nights and two intercontinental tours touching USA [New York and Washington] and in 2019 out of Japan in Tokyo .
