All proceeds from the track are going to Sounds Minds charity.

They do some amazing in-reach work on mental health wards, as well as community groups for individuals not in employment, education or training who are experiencing debilitating mental health issues. Sadly the NHS trusts largely don't feel budgets can stretch to support the in-reach work, despite the clear-as-day positive impact the sessions have on people.

Comme Des Garçons is a statement piece from Front Bench. Across 41 minutes, he announces himself as an artist keen to tell a deeper story, as he ditches format and enters the sprawling, moody longform.

Through moments of synthy ambience, electronic hip-hop, sample-heavy dubstep, and full-blown vocal pop, these 10 tracks - written in two lonely lockdown weeks - pensively reflect on what has been a challenging and formative period.

London’s Holly Wilks makes a stunning vocal appearance on I Would’ve Meant It, the album’s jewel, and regular collaborator Tom Jarmey lends glitchy production to For A Very Long Time, as the album winds to its finale.

Comme Des Garçons marks an experimental shift towards a more commercially structured
sound, and marks an evolution for Front Bench, as well as for the sonic direction of his label.

Maroki comes through with a 6-track serotonin boost for our Lost Palms series.

With its title meaning ‘flower’ in Dutch, Bloem EP sees Maroki depart somewhat from the colder acid and electro inflections of most of his previous releases, favouring instead a sunnier vibe and a focus on melody and texture.

‘ICBT1’ embodies this sugar-coated departure perfectly. High-frequency metallic synth plucks form a dynamic melody, making up just one element of a dense soundscape which also compiles a reverb-laden cymbal break, elated flutes and pitched-up vocal chops. The title track, together with ‘Forgot You’ strips things back a little, both driven by an understated deep house beat. ‘Bloem’ sees the EP at its most gentle with bubbly xylophonic tinkles that evoke the hypnotic allure of K-Lone’s ‘Cape Cira’ LP; whilst ‘Forgot You’ gets its melody from the low ends. 

‘Forgot Me’ is its moody older sibling and the most minimal track of them all, showcasing the darker underbelly to Maroki’s sound with eerie underwater arpeggios and hollow percussion. This atmosphere sticks around for ‘Why’: an entrancing full-bodied breaks track sure to be closing DJ sets this Summer.

Flexing spaced out electro cuts, Canadian duo Minor Sine Project are back with their 5 track EP “Stitch in Time.” Tracks such as “Edge of Glory” and “A Stitch in Time” simulate expansive, acid dripped worlds with plenty of low end to shake the bass bins. “Stretched Thin” displays MSP’s penchant for creating sonic blends of modern breakbeat and 4x4 rhythms. Both energy and tempo are brought up another notch on “One for the Road” and “Warp Speed,” with each track further proving that Minor Sine Project will continue to twist and bend genres while always applying plenty of that signature groove to each work.

PREMIERE: LowfatiK - Visions [Yanked Beats]

Every now and then we get sent new music that offers a different take on familiar genres, and this latest premiere does just that.  UK producer SUPPLY has honed his sound, reimagining the classic sounds of DnB, jungle and grime, all while keeping it soulful. 

Machine Woman’s Take Away Jazz Records imprint has been releasing leftfield electronic and experimental tracks since 2019 and this release 'SL' from SUPPLY is a natural fit. Made up of rolling breakbeats alongside straight up DnB and left-of-centre jungle rhythms, the track we premiere today is 'Tunnel Vision'.  

'Tunnel Vision' nods to the more liquid side of DnB, a drum-funk track at it's core, juxtaposing a jazzy atmosphere and cleverly sampled vocals over a shuffly rhythm. It will no doubt offer a sense of reprise in the middle of a harder set, while keeping the crowd moving. 

‘SL EP’ drops via Take Away Jazz Records on 17th June via their Bandcamp. In the meantime, listen to 'Tunnel Vision' below.
