From the depths of the apartment, swirling, downed, fussy drums are heard. An arabesque of loud vocal samples playfully jumps over the hummocks of a funky beat, making its way through a string of distorted, sometimes convulsive rhythm.

Someone is rushing around the room, putting on shiny leggings in front of the mirror and setting off the eyelids with the color of Jacko's last breath, and someone, blurring in a euphoric smile, can't get up from the chair an hour before the party.

The sounds of vicious, garage pleasure can continuously replace each other in different guises: charismatic bass incarnation, the dominance of sharp and lumpy dubstep bottoms, ripe synthesizer loops, irrational 2-step patterns and even compliant jungle drops with ragga tunes.

Each element is equivalent, so anything can get into your head. This music, which has rightfully become an integral part of British culture, grew up together with its listeners, who did not have time to blink an eye, as they got families, replacing bright parties with lamp gatherings at the home sound system.

This is not about deconstructing the style, but about its modern reincarnation and an attempt to add more soul to the second various within the framework of the Spezial Series from GLBDOM.

Next tape shamelessly broadcasts something more than a musical history into the mouthpiece of the era. The playful intro with Kelis' voice instantly sets a suitable rhythmic texture, hinting at a multi-genre evolution within the compilation. First, a tub of burning, aggressive bottoms pours out on the top of the head, flows down the ears with organ synthesizers and tickles the cheekbones with sensitive hats.

Everything becomes more serious when a high-voltage jungle and an assertive swing with a booming, angrily mumbling bass line are alternately wedged into the carefree prowess. Arrogance is quickly knocked down by weightless melodies with rare blues scales and dreamy echoes of Eurodance, packed in classic UKG.

Here and there you can hear the expressive riddle of breakstep mixed with growing landscape pads and agile snare, and in places a notorious raga style seeps through, demonstrating a true gangster bearing.

A fresh street blend Spezial Series Vol. 3 will shower from head to toe with seditious, unbridled and daring highlights, and where necessary — it will caress with romantic accompaniment.

Bristol don Nicky Soft Touch makes his eagerly awaited return with the follow up to his last TIN release, Lonely City Sampler. Set for release almost exactly one year on, Lonely City Cuts sees Soft Touch continue in his deft explorations of sampling, chopping and rearranging beats using cuts from helter skelter and sidewinder tapes. Much like his previous release, as well as the self-released projects he’s shared in the meantime, the LP is centred around a DIY aesthetic, making intimacy and introspection two of its defining features.

Conceived during a stint living in London, the series is imbued with a sense of place. Delivered via raw production techniques, voice recordings and off-kilter, broken garage beats, this positions the release amongst the moody, urban landscapes which provide the backdrop for Burial and Actress’ music. On Volume One, this sounds like narling basslines that ricochet around swung percussion, and plaintive ambience that immerses you in its shadowy worlds. On Volume Two, like hip hop interludes, deep house grooves and hyper-referential skits.

Party-starter Chrissy joins the Shall Not Fade family with a 4-track serotonin hit which draws on influences from his home in San Francisco as well as the scene in the UK.

‘You Don’t Have To Worry’ encompasses this fusion, with anthemic piano chords and uplifting vocals that enliven a swung breaks instrumental. ‘Assure Us There’s A Heaven’ and ‘If I Could’ also come with plenty of swing, borrowing tropes from UK Funky to show house at its most danceable, whilst ‘All These Dreams’ is a modern take on old school vocal house.
