Above & Beyond are once again breaking new ground with the release of their first cinematic film score for The Last Glaciers. The IMAX version of the ground-breaking documentary, IMAX presents The Last Glaciers is set for release in select theaters on March 22nd.

Directed and produced by award-winning filmmaker Craig Leeson (A Plastic Ocean) and United Nations Mountain Hero & Entrepreneur Malcolm Wood, The Last Glaciers is a breathtaking documentary film that takes viewers on a four-year, cross-continental journey to explore the cause and effects of climate change in Antarctica, the Himalaya, Alps, Andes and more. 

“It was an honor to be invited by Craig to compose the score for ‘The Last Glaciers’”, explains Jono Grant from Above & Beyond. 

“For the musical direction, we felt it important for the score to reflect the beauty of our changing planet that Craig had elegantly captured. Stylistically we wanted to combine our largely electronic musical background with live orchestra to create a hybrid score. It was important to us that the score both reflect the challenges facing the world today, and those faced by Craig as an individual and filmmaker over the course of filming. As well as conveying a sense of urgency, we wanted the score to portray an optimistic tone, and to encourage a positive call to action from the viewer,” says Grant.

The score was written in collaboration with esteemed producer, composer, and performer Darren Tate, a longtime friend of the band whose credits include film scores for ‘Frontera’ and ‘How Do You Write A Joe Schermann Song’.

“I am very excited to be part of this project as the message could not be of more importance (nor more urgent),” says Tate. “Our planet is in peril and across the globe, action needs to be taken.” 

The original motion picture soundtrack is released today, 22 March. IMAX presents The Last Glaciers is out now in select IMAX theatres.

Crisp white snow covered the ground, burying all plant life that had once decorated the surface below. Icy branches lay bare, creating beautiful silhouettes against the murky sky. For months now the days had been long and dark, perpetually blending into the nights. The inhabitants of the city wandered the streets like lost souls, nomads of the world trying to find a place where they could belong. Something had to change soon, they had grown tired of this existence. 

Russian producer Module One is next up on Anna Wall's label, The Bricks. Following the last release from Sunrom, over three tracks Module One dives head first into deep atmospheric house, plus Chicago producer Tyree Cooper puts his own spin on the lead track.

Elina Shorokhova aka SOELA (@soelaela) is a multi-talented artist hailing from southern Russia who now calls Berlin her home. It is there where she continues to build her presence in the community through her live and DJ sets alongside documenting the local scene and artists through her lens as a photographer.

LILY EP may be 4 tracks but as a collected whole, sounds and feels like an album when heard from beginning to end. The title track emits her talent as a pianist by setting a tone of gracefulness that is carried throughout the EP – broken beats float in and out of dub drenched ambience that flows with cascading vocals. CLOSE YOUR EYES echos a spirit of Detroit House with refreshing new intensities. Again, her vocals caress the track but as an incredibly catchy hook. WHITE BECOMES BLACK shows her own interpretation of dub techno and combines that into a classic house beat. I HAVE A DREAM sounds like she bridges all of the previous track elements into a single whole which makes this tune the perfect closing track for any DJ set and of this release. A steady low-end groove keeps the ricocheting snares and somber synths cruising to an up-tempo rhythm.

Following previous releases on Shall Not Fade and KOMPAKT, Soela will release her debut on Australia-via-Berlin imprint Nerang Recordings with the ‘Downfall’ EP.

The EP showcases the studio and creative mastery of the Russia-born and Berlin-based artist, who has years of experience as a pianist and vocalist under her belt.

Spanning five tracks, Downfall EP sees Soela team up with Berlin-based DJ and producer Module One, and Nerang head honcho Whipr Snipr. The release also features a remix from Ukrainian artist, Saturated Color.

The title track is deep house at its finest, showcasing otherworldly atmospheres, serene chords and Soela’s blissful piano, which has been a staple throughout her productions. Up next, ‘Cabinet’ featuring Module One features echoing, magical synths and thumping percussion working in perfect harmony. 

On the flip side, ‘Golden Hour’ is the quintessential afterhours track that would be at home at daytime raves and summer festivals alike. 

The Saturated Colour remix gives the title track a darker twist, adding an acid house synthline that’s in perfect synch with the track’s dreamy atmospheres and enchanting beats.

Wrapping things up, ‘Hide From Love’ sees Soela team up with Whipr Snipr to deliver a piano meets acid house tune that beckons us to get down on the dancefloor and dance with our eyes closed.

Nerang Recordings will release the ‘Downfall EP’ both on vinyl and digitally on February 21, 2020.
