Tom Frankel returns to our Killer Cuts series with four bubbly, melodic house tracks which touch base at Italo and progressive trance.

The London DJ, producer, label manager and one half of TIN family duo Frankel and Harper released ‘Milestone’ EP back in April last year: a skippy house cut with a strong nostalgia for early ‘90s raves. One year on, ‘Pingers in a field’ sees Frankel focus on bubbly melodies and rich textures. 

‘Pursuit’ is a polyphonic Italo-leaning house banger driven by sumptuous claps, whilst ‘Virtual Reality’’s anthemic melody and acid textures steer more towards progressive trance. ‘Commodore’ follows suit, adding in layers of cosmic ambience that floats blissfully above an assertive tech house beat before the dynamic acidic synths on ‘Blind Date’ bounce beneath high-pitched arpeggios.

PREMIERE: A2 - Aiden Francis - Fusion [GST27]

Freedom meant different things to different people. It came in different forms... There were globally recognised freedoms; human rights that we all should have though many didn't. There were personal freedoms, the little things that were individual to you, some might understood them but others might not. Then there were shared freedoms; burying yourself in a good book, beavering away in the kitchen, sweating it out in the gym, or losing yourself in the music and dancing your cares away.

It's no secret we've been fans of Leipzig's R.A.N.D. Muzik Recordings for some time. Well now they're expanding the label family with a brand spanking new offshoot, Breakfree Records, headed up by R.A.N.D. label manager Reece Walker and his pal Salomo. It just so happens that the pair are also very talented producers (you might have heard their tracks on the parent label before) so they're taking matters into their own hands for the debut release, FREE01, which in typical fashion sees them journey through house grooves and techy pumpers.

The latest collection of wayward floor heaters from Nuances De Nuit takes us once more into a colourful headspace, a place house music with more personality is possible, and encouraged.

Huerta follows up that sterling start with the enchanting electro incantations of "Legwork", which build wonderfully on the sound laid out on his recent debut album for Voyage Recordings.

Expect attentive snare and clap combos, rooted in a tech-y-cum-glid-y perc arrangement; this combination with a rolling no nonsense bassline certify it's floor groove status. 'Legwork' proves though for a club focussed track to have legs, it needs to do more than just bang, expect melodic pads and woven synths to elevate this from the hoi polloi; enchanting melody and interplay always has a place on the floor.
