Following releases with YAM, Tiff’s Joints, Dr Banana and Touching Bass, artist Romaal Kultan (Ollie Malin) now inaugurates his own record label, Personal Discs.

No Time Like The Future showcases Romaal Kultan’s finest productions, charting a distinct personal trajectory between hiphop, house and broken beat. Opener One Moment Please is a sassy boom bap affair, with an unexpected nod towards jungle. Music Room, made in collaboration with producer Cypriano, is a patient, moody chugger — a tapestry of piano, organic percussion and crackly vinyl samples laced with acid.

On the B-side, Personal Effects delivers a unique, hypnotic broken beat groove, where swelling synths and a twinkling Rhodes meditate together in careful arrangement. Finally, the intimate title track No Time Like the Future stomps off into the sunrise, carried along by a rolling, yearning dreaminess.

Each one of these tracks represents a special, all-too-rare moment of ecstasy in the studio. I hope that this feeling lives on in the music.

Rising Belgian talent Supreems returns to Lobster Theremin, following up 2016's breakout ‘Us Together’ 12" and his recent superb Hammer remix with a four track journey to the outer rim through ethereal breaks, undulating deep house and luscious electro.

Opener 'Close Your Eyes (And Feel)' has been bothering the net for a good year now and finally sees a release on wax. Scattered breaks, chopped vocals and those classic yearning pads collide and shatter into a fine mist of melancholia. Next up is ‘Broken (And Out Of Sync)’, a hefty rumbling breakbeat base punctured by heavily staccato’d acid lines and rapid analogue arpeggiators. A soaring, uplifting night sky flight.

Shifting into life on the B-side is When Two Souls Reach. A heavy soul search, wandering down into the depths, alongside the setting sun. A warm, enveloping love letter cast down from the clouds in beams of yellow and orange tinted light. Then the final leg, the thundering drum-scorched ‘Stream Of Consciousness’. Evolving pad lines that meander along the edge of sanity, twinkling percussive synths and swung 909’s and 808’s. Soft-hued melodies and endlessly hazy atmospherics for the close.

From Copenhagen via Århus, Denmark, Grammar of Movement is bubbling up! This time releasing on sublabel, Lobster UNDR. Plastic Games EP offers 5 wigged-out cuts and frenzied electro to make your head spin. 

Opener, ‘Plastic Games’ is pacy, trippy electro; shadowy loops steeped in urgency - the shape of things to come from Grammar of Movement. Dysphoria ensues via the robotic, melancholic ‘Model 1600’. Next, ‘IOI’ offers stripped back food for thought, slowly sucking you into the acid whirlpool. On the flip, Grammar of Movement nods to other influences. ‘Sad Juno’ lets broken beats smack against swirling electronics. Rounding out the EP on a groovier note, ‘K-Mix’ is a sonic laser-quest adventure.

Earth Boys aka Julian Duron and Michael Sherburn pay homage to the West coast on this LP starting in Northern California with thick, swirling opening track ‘Sonoma’ - a stripped back, sultry dubby number with just enough pace. Blending pool-side sax with steely percussion and vocals drenched in the day’s last golden moments. Sugary ‘I Just Love It With You’ is a loved-up house cut blooming with warmth - one to serenade your lover, friend, dog with. On the flip, ‘Mushroom Cloud’ takes the b-side into trippier, groovy territory. Float away on the cloud, through shimmery pads, exotic percussion and classic vox lines. Understated ‘Amazon Prime Jungle’ is a sleepy, dreamy jungle roller that delivers on all fronts. More sax laced, beach-front feels come courtesy of title track ‘Earth Tones’, an easy going, lush sundowner to soothe your soul. C2 ‘Battery Boys’ is a real beauty, keys tinkle against the amazonian backdrop in this nature inspired number. ‘On A Limb’ is a ‘softly, softly’ track - electronics tickle a 4/4 beat on this real nice cut - DJ tool tip! The Melbourne underground house scene has a bright new voice in Loure. With his latest EP, Outta 106, dropping on his own label, Nothin Personal, Loure establishes himself as a radically inventive house musician who leans as much into neo-soul and free-form jazz as deep house. Tapping into a stunning, kinetic livewire of soul-infused, effusive house-jazz that incorporates live instrumentation, Loure’s music cuts straight to the heart and burrows itself there with warm, gentle ease.Across 6 gorgeous tracks, Loure displays his innate ear for swooning melodies and improvisatory instrumental jam-outs. On penultimate B-side track, “Heavyweight Sinner”, Loure dials down the sky-razing intensity of the previous 4 tracks and lets listeners be carried off on a more relaxing vibe. Coming off the heels of the drum’n’bass and sax-filled B-side opener, “The Walk Home”, this track fades in with a warping synth and delicate keys that then segue into a drum pattern and warbly bassline that would fit right at home on a Herbie Hancock record. This track comes as a welcome respite from the EP’s pervasive, soaring emotional catharsis. However, this is not to say the track feels lifeless or is any less impactful. Even as it gains momentum with a sublime bass-solo at its peak, the track never gets ahead of itself, perpetually keeping the listener in a tranquil state to luxuriate in. Loure’s music, and this track in particular, represents a subset of house music that transcends a merely vibe-setting idiom. Utilizing key elements of this style, Loure imbues this track with so much personality, dexterity, and soul, it feels essential in the context of the EP, and moreover, for anyone looking to explore a more jazz-inflected strain of house.

Like fireflies against the backdrop of black he was in his own world, his own infinity in which there was nobody else but him. It was an opportunity to escape and rejoice in the reckless freedom and carelessness of the great beyond. Some called him selfish as he danced by himself, oblivious to the shouts and conversations of others. What use were they here? What use were they to him? The great beyond called out with all he needed for the night and a lifetime to come. 

Matthieu Faubourg is set to release a house tinged EP on Strctr, an elegant, sophisticated, melodic affair which is tied up in a perfect package by Frits Wentink and Leo Pol. This one has been on regular rotation already and comes highly recommended.

Underground duo Rein rise enigmatically out of the ether and announce themselves to the world with their first ever label release, having put out a whole host of self-released goodness in the past. The EP, titled SG002, marks the second release put out from mysterious underground label Stolen Groove.
The 4-track belter takes clear inspiration from both house and breakbeat to deliver a sound defined by original drum breaks and euphoria.
