this journey showcases 9.33% of the recent sounds i have been enjoying within the 90 - 120 bpm range, i have constructed a track collection predominantly from all-time-favorite artists (& labels), as well as some favorite upcoming recent talents — which puts it in a special place for me and i hope it will for some of you too ♡ 

marking 4 years since the humble start of the podcast means a lot to me, thanks to all listeners and to those who keep coming back ♡

Perfectly in tune with the summer season upon us, Islandman presents a refreshing sound from the shores of the Black Sea with this splendid sunny mix. Originally from Turkey, this brilliant producer started out at a young age and made his way in music by playing a traditional long-necked lute known as a saz. It’s thanks to this early relationship with music that Islandman developed the technique and feeling needed to handle farfetched rhythms, sounds and chants inspired by the flowering cultures of the Mediterranean Basin and beyond to blend them with mastery in his tracks and mixes. This eclecticism and understanding of music has helped him put together a wide range of melodies and musical styles which extend from enchanting edits of traditional Bulgarian sounds to smooth balearic disco. His mix is exciting and mesmerising, catching the mind in a gentle twine of melodies and rhythms. His perfect balance of percussions and electronic beats shakes and ripples throughout the track, and lifts you with ecstatic vibes. The mix goes on in a beautifully arranged journey set by the pace of your own inner dance, as if the concept of time ceases to exist and it’s just you and the music. I’m happy to present you what happened to be a true adventure & a musical highlight for me this year, Journey to Tarab 2019.

The story takes place in two chapters, recorded on the Drachen Nest Saturday night in Zsambek, Hungary.

CHAPTER I

It’s 7:45pm and I’m in the DJ booth of the Drachen Nest, my equipment is connected and I’m ready to play. In the center of the dancefloor, a beautiful tandem are performing live with a super cozy setup & I discover the talented duo Ameli Paul. The stage manager gives me a sign that it’s their last song, and I have my intro tracks and samples selected - I’m ready to go and ecstatic to play. 

As my first track is playing, it only takes a few minutes before the wind blows dark and dense clouds hover above our heads. The rain starts pouring; showers. I look down for only a few seconds to mix in the next song but by the next time I look up, everyone has vanished.

A small group of people with the most vibrant energy came to seek shelter in the booth and it truly cheers me up. I’m so excited to be there and I know that such heavy rain won’t last long, staying optimistic that people will come back.

As the rain calms down, people come back, one by one. Umbrellas, raincoats, mud & smiles. The crowd continues to grow and I get to meet my dance floor one person at a time. The rain has stopped. The Drachen is blowing smoke while the sun disappears & I feel the dance floor is finally in symbiosis. I evolve tempo by a few BPM & as my most energetic track of the set drops…

B L A C K O U T. No sound, no light, it is total darkness on the dance floor, a complete power outage.
