Eddie Amador’s ‘House Music’ is, without question, a bonafide classic. As it reaches its 25th milestone on Yoshitoshi, Sharam provides a timely remix that perfectly updates the record for today’s dancefloors.
 
“I’d been toying with the idea of remixing ‘House Music’ for quite a while but always opted to give it to better hands as Dubfire and I had once remixed it as Deep Dish, so didn’t think I could add anything new,” he explains, “it wasn’t until I saw the 25th anniversary was fast approaching that I thought I’d give it a shot, so I put everything aside to get it done.”
 
Safe to say, many will be glad he did; his modish ‘2.5’ interpretation is a powerful blend of melodic, house and techno in the best, purist sense of the words - a fusion few can pull off. Yet, the original, which is presented here in recently remastered guise, still holds its own and confirms its classic status with ageless aplomb.

Real house heads will remember the days when it wasn’t uncommon for artists to make multiple mixes of the same track for their release, and every DJ who played the record had their favorite mix. This way of doing things has fallen to the wayside in the days of digital, perpetuated by a fear that “splitting sales” might hurt chart positions. Well, Sharam wants you to know that he doesn’t care, and his new single hearkens back to this sacred, old school tradition. “The Rain” is not just one amazing record – it is three.

The track features the vocals of Adam Englefield, aka Bengle, who crafted these beautiful, haunting lyrics specifically for Sharam's ever-so-meloncholic sound. As if it was needed, the release further displays Sharam’s versatility as a producer, pouring his talent into 3 distinct mixes, each with its own special flavor around the vocals as if three different artists remixed it.

We kick things off with the New York mix, which alone sounds like three unique mixes. It starts deep and ominous, then moves into a building section which captures your attention as it moves continuously upward toward the final section, a huge and impending drop which has had crowds going nuts for months. The climax in the New York mix cannot be understated, it’s an explosion of energy the likes of which only Sharam could conjure.
We move next to the London mix. With its more straight-ahead arrangement amidst alluring melodies and hypnotic elements, this one is more apt for bigger rooms and festivals, yet its consistently deep and keeps the eerie and memorable vibe of the vocals at the forefront.

Finally, the Detroit mix provides an option for those who like their records dirty and raw. Where the New York and London mixes are sleek and polished, the Detroit mix strips things down to its bare, groovy essentials. Its classic, Juno-inspired chords and 909 snare smacks wouldn’t sound out of place in a 90’s house mix out of Chicago, but Sharam seemingly got his inspiration from Detroit. You be the judge.

Altogether, the three distinct mixes come together to create a diverse and exciting body of work that is at once dark, deep, epic, and singularly Sharam. He and Bengle have proven themselves a dream team, gifting the world with this unique record.

My experience started by getting completely lost in a crazy white out on the Playa solo. I lost & ditched my homies in a singular effort to make my set on time on my bike lol. I ended up being 30 minutes late to my set and also played on CDJs first time in 10 years or so (or whatever long time  - I’m usually a Traktor guy).

It was one of those magical moments with the elements (extreme heat and playa dust) dictating the direction of the day. I was thirsty AF on top of being late AF. But the DISTRIKT crew had my back upon arrival with smoothies, water and drinks and made me feel at home immediately, and it turned out to be one of my most memorable and cherished experiences. Can’t wait to come back for more fun in the dust!

Burning Man: where each year brings a whirlwind of adventures, surprises, and moments that stick with you long after the dust settles. And in the midst of all that chaos, there's DISTRIKT; an oasis of fun and entertainment that looks straight from a Mad Max movie gone wild, takes the Burning Man experience to a whole new level. 

My inaugural gig at DISTRIKT two years back was a textbook case of Burning Man madness. Picture this: a monstrous sandstorm sweeping across the playa, me wandering around lost on my bike, fashionably late to my own set. But did DISTRIKT panic? Nah. They greeted me with a fresh smoothie to kickstart my DJing journey amidst the swirling dust. Classic!

Fast forward to my most recent escapade at DISTRIKT, and Mother Nature decided to throw a curveball — cue the floodwaters!! Yet, the flood came fashionably late, conveniently after my set. But that night? Dehydration was the name of the game. AND my Traktor, bless its digital soul, decided it wasn't in the mood to play nice with the mixer. And there I was, parched AF like a desert plant, with everyone and their playa cousins offering me water tequila while I attempted to update the mixer driver in a haze of confusion, and of course, the DISTRIKT gang was there on top of the whole process to get me up and running - literally and musically. 

In true playa fashion the show must go on. Cue the backup USBs swooping in to save the day. And just when I thought it couldn't get any wilder, in strolls Diplo himself, ready to unveil our collaborative masterpiece ‘Anthem' to the world (although at the time we did’t have name for it yet). But wait, there's more — did you know those dusty X1 Traktor controllers could go wireless? Neither did I, until Diplo schooled me, adding cowbells to our track live like a mad musical scientist.

So without further ado, here's a glimpse into that glorious night before the floods—a sonic journey through the madness and magic of DISTRIKT at Burning Man. Enjoy the ride.  ~ Sharam

This is from my set at Sonic Soul Tribe (the only set I have a recording of). Here Comes The Rain Again w/ Anousheh

Filth On Acid label boss Renier Zonneveld launched his new collaborative series called Cocktail with one prior release, and now has called upon one half of Deep Dish and Yoshitoshi boss Sharam for his second official release titled ‘Ski’.

Hypnotic and sharp from the get-go, ‘Ski’ is a slow-burning crowd pleaser that taps into crisp drums, classic analog synths and an absolutely chilling vocal. 'Ski', combining the best of both seasoned producers, is a teasing tune that slowly, but surely unravels into an undeniable peak set moment.

'Ski' is out on Filth On Acid on June 16.

Sharam has remixed Shakira’s Official FIFA World Cup song, ‘Waka Waka‘. The Grammy-winning DJ has applied his unique touch to Shakira’s original, transforming it into a dance floor anthem worthy of a World Cup winner, complete with his signature sound and African-style drums.

Shakira said, “Sharam has brought a unique spin to his interpretation of “Waka Waka”.  He has brought the song to the dancefloor. This is one of those artistic collaborations that makes perfect sense.”

The FIFA World Cup is easily the most widely viewed and followed sporting event in the world, exceeding the Olympics which put the “Waka Waka” remixes on a world stage.  The song is already in the hands of the world’s top DJs and will be released later this month.

“Anyone who knows me will tell you I am a sports buff and the FIFA World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world. To work on the official song is a landmark achievement for me, something I’ve dreamt about doing since making music became a part of my life. I have always admired Shakira’s unique twist on pop music and when she asked me to remix Waka Waka, I didn’t hesitate,” says Sharam.

The climax in the New York mix cannot be understated, it’s an explosion of energy the likes of which only Sharam could conjure.

We move next to the London mix. With its more straight-ahead arrangement amidst alluring melodies and hypnotic elements, this one is more apt for bigger rooms and festivals, yet its consistently deep and keeps the eerie and memorable vibe of the vocals at the forefront.

Finally, the Detroit mix provides an option for those who like their records dirty and raw. Where the New York and London mixes are sleek and polished, the Detroit mix strips things down to its bare, groovy essentials. Its classic, Juno-inspired chords and 909 snare smacks wouldn’t sound out of place in a 90’s house mix out of Chicago, but Sharam seemingly got his inspiration from Detroit. You be the judge.

Altogether, the three distinct mixes come together to create a diverse and exciting body of work that is at once dark, deep, epic, and singularly Sharam. He and Bengle have proven themselves a dream team, gifting the world with this unique record.
