I put together a collection of songs last year as part of World Goth Day for KEXP. This was when the pandemic was hitting super hard and I remember for some reason, I was still feeling super inspired to put this together. Maybe it was from being alone and just sitting on a bank of cool songs and realizing that one of the best feelings ever is listening to good music. 

This isn't anything fancy, it's just a collection of songs that I was really into at the time (still love). So sit back and enjoy :)

World Goth Day 2020 Mix

Together in Electric Dreams with Sharlese

Spend two hours with Sharlese from Seattle, WA in the goth, Italo, wave and synth world.

Sharlese works at the legendary radio station KEXP as a DJ and producer of The Afternoon Show, Expansions, and Mechanical Breakdown as well as the station’s Programming Education Manager where she works closely with youth who are breaking into the radio industry.

In Seattle, Sharlese has a live music party called False Prophet and a dance party called Audiodrome at Pony. She is also a resident of Seattle's underground techno collective, secondnature and additionally serves as a member of the Black Techno Matters collective.

Her weekly program “Mechanical Breakdown” provide sounds and melodies that offer a vision of hopeful doom for restless, kindhearted souls. Constantly linked on lineups with mega hitters, like Auroral Halal at the very last Honey Soundsystem in 2020 or playing peak sets at Bite Night for Phase Fatale’s label nights at Berghain, Sharlese blasts it out of the ballpark every time. I had this dream - I could hear the galloping coming my way. The dark knights of the soul, riders of the realm. They were coming to present me a coin, a choice, "heads or tails?"... "Headz", I said. With a flick of a thumb, the coin spiraled into the air in slow motion. In a state of suspended time, the coin revealed that it had many sides and perspectives, so many beyond heads and tails - almost infinity like. It continued to spin, like a Rodolex, demonstrating every possibility for what felt like an eternity. Transfixed, I stared as it went from slow to fast, so fast at this point that it formed into a black sphere. I put my palm out underneath it, which is when they told me, "the world comes from shadow... with precision." The coin landed in my palm and I clenched my fist. I awoke instantly. I never saw which way that coin landed! My laptop was next to me, and 'Blue Flowers' by Doctor Octagon was playing on Youtube - Nipuna
