Favorite gig so far?

Probs a tie between:
-playing on a roof in DTLA this summer with Beautiful Swimmers (shoutout DC crew!) and hitting the b2b with my boy Benedek to close out the evening was divine!
-Traveling to Vancouver to play in June for my first international DJ gig was so much fun. I bought all the records I used in this mix during my trip there!

Current DJ gear set up?

Two Technics 1200’s, Shure M44 7 cartridges (damn i need to buy some up soon), Pioneer DJM 600 mixer, Sony MDR headphones, Zoom h4n recorder, vinyl duster, IKEA shelf full of records raised up on IKEA Capita legs (an essential hack! having the decks six inches higher is perfect & it looks nice too!), monitors, various audio and power cables, floor, roof, walls windows, self

Advice to beginning djs?

trust your ear for what you like. ask questions. practice by yourself but also practice with friends. everybody’s different so when you practice djing with others it keeps you fresh! back to back djing with friends is how i really learned to have fun with mixing. also just hanging out with friends and playing music for/with each other is just one of life’s biggest joys in my opinion! get comfortable with your home DJ setup but also if you have a network of other DJ friends play on their setups because you never know what kind of gear your first DIY party might have.

What do you wish to see in the future for the dance community?

communication. love. don’t assume. don’t judge. be nice! help each other out! empathy and awareness.

Fun fact: I’m an aries add me on co-star

If you could place a dj booth anywhere in the world… where would it be & what would you play? (For instance I would place a dj booth at the bottom of the ocean underneath Antarctica and play trance for all sea life) 

Hard to top that answer, maybe a big open air field rave but like for dogs. Hypothetically with a very high tech sound system that could move the air around essentially petting them all at once but without damaging their sensitive ears obviously. 

Advice to beginning dj’s? 

Don’t mix two tracks just because they happen to be the ~same tempo if they don’t feel good together (I should take my own advice)

Very generally just continued mutual support / skill and resource sharing that sort of thing (s/o Selwa & everyone in “pick up the flow” for instance), elevating everyone in the scene and moving towards a shared vision of a more cooperative post-capitalist future let’s get it yall

Hi Seanzy S here :) I grew up on the west coast, next to the ocean,  spent a few formative years in Ukraine where I discovered dance music. Currently in Brooklyn but always feel like a child of the cosmos. I spend a lot of time on discogs battling sharks. I still believe in true love.

If you could place a dj booth anywhere in the world… where would it be & what would you play? 

Can it be out of this world? If so, on the moon or some far away planet, I'd let the needle drop and the aliens would reveal themselves like 'yo we gave you this music!' and i'd be like 'oh I knew it the whole time' and they'd be like 'hehe yeea' and we'd get down and groove so hard in space celebrating the wonders of the universe and love and unity.

Oh! def flying through space with this one, it's right between two rather groovy tracks, so like purple, but space purple with black abyss around it.

Most underrated artist at the moment? 

DJs: Borys, Karine, Bambu from Kyiv.  Akanbi, Primo Pitino, X-Coast in the US, ha. Progressive Future is a really sick label from Kyiv. Cxema is showcasing some of the scene’s brightest talent. 

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community? 

Less social media and more living in the moment on the dance floor. Less of the things around dance music and more actual dance music. More drug education and testing. More inclusivity of all people. More hugging strangers. Less sexualizing people on the dance floor, more consent. Better dance floor etiquette; saying excuse me and thank you. A lot of sound systems leave more to be desired, but I'm optimistic about this shifting.
