Joe Goddard (Hot Chip) has hooked up a beat of such electronic magnitude it sounds like Godzilla marching on Westminster. Over it he drops a chorus of deadpan eloquence which acts as the jump off point for DELS and his labelmate Roots Manuva to rip through verses of such venomous intelligence that if anyone ever again says to you that "rappers haven’t got anything to say" you can just grab this CD and slap them round the chops with it. We promise to stand outside court with placards at your trial for common assault. A genuine monster of a tune, as packed with a celebratory spirit of solidarity as it is with anger and defiance, this is a truly important and memorable single from a truly important and memorable album.

The late, great J Dilla is widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time.  Since his death in 2006, Dilla’s mother Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey has worked tirelessly to further her son’s legacy, and her latest effort is the new release Motor City. Northeastern rap collective Bad Poetry Club faithfully bring Hip-Hop back to its roots on “Look Up In The Sky,” a pure and raw showcase of each member’s immense and unique talents.

Whereas the group dipped into genres such as jazz and dance music on their previous single “The Words,” BPC are offering a new and different journey with “Look Up In The Sky.” It’s a gritty and hypnotic track that provides a sonic contrast while showcasing that BPC’s forthcoming full-length will take listeners on a trip through different sounds and vibes.

“Look Up In The Sky” also proves that these four artists have their individual skill sets mastered, but are collectively greater than the sum of their parts. Musically, that’s evident from the track’s outset, which transitions from a soulful vocal sample into a blend of Honeycomb’s mesmerizing beatboxing, and layered instrumentation from Michael Wilbur. It’s a perfect canvas for the cinematic lyricism of rapper Sotorios and rapper/producer Tonio Sagan, who spit bars that engulf the listener. Also, you haven’t heard flute sound this dope in a minute. Promise.
