An eclectic mix of sounds, his music is best described as contemporary house with an aggressively distinctly funky resonance. His sets are an exercise in cross genre flexibility and harmony of House, vocal and Disco classics. “I’ve always jumped across genres, even back in Jr. high.  we’d play Cameo “I just want to be” followed by “Jamie’s Crying” Van Halen.  I feel most comfortable being outside of the lines a bit”. 

Born & raised in the PNW, AB  has been djʼing for over 35 years, but considers himself a musician first. He’s equally as comfortable singing, or in the studio writing & producing and has has residencies spanning from the Cuff to Q, while opening for some of the industries most iconic artists.

“As we emerge its vital we create spaces for Black & Brown artists to ensure a legacy of inclusion we can look back on in the next ten years. I’ll always have my hand in the business, and am excited to lend my voice to that effort, and equally excited to partner and offer my creative direction for a new SODO entertainment venue. Out of the darkness, I’m so thankful.

This edition of the Innerflight Broadcast brings back one of our favorite DJ's and producers in all the land, TK. Part of forward thinking and cutting edge music makers Warehouse Preservation Society and Split Secs, he has his magik working in quite a few musical territories.  If you've ever heard this dude play, you know what kind of escapades he can take you on. If you've never heard this dude play live... well, you're in luck (if you're in Seattle this weekend). Innerflight has joined forces with hallowed local house crew Flammable to bring TK to you live and direct to Lofi this Friday October 8th. Joining him are the master himself, Brian Lyons as well as Innerflight residents Jason Lee and Kadeejah Streets.

Innerflight Broadcast 133 : TK

On Friday, October 1st, Tropical Events turned 23 in Portland, at our 90th in-person event since October 1998!

Second was Mercedes, who was bangin with great energy as expected, and brought the dance floor to quite a frenzy by as early as 11:00.  She's pretty relentless and so fun to dance to!  

We had talked to Mercedes about playing Annand House Cafe in Eugene when it was a thing, but we stopped rt before it could happen, so was lovely to finally have her at Tropical!

Do Not Sit has never been about one sound, and as we always look to discover the bright stars of the future, we never forget the heroes of the past. We are thrilled to welcome to the label one of those heroes and a very dear friend, Gavin Hardkiss. 

Gavin was one of the bedrocks of the original San Francisco scene, and he was one of the main forces who helped shape the community. We have so much respect for what him and the family of Hardkiss Brothers did to shine light on the West Coast sound around the world.

'Perc Groove EP' is a collection of three original tracks from Gavin, each filled with his decade's long palate of sound and rhythm. From the title track's deep, underground warehouse vibes, to 'Debonnaire', the familiar cosmic breaks he championed for generations, and the modern, organic and emotional composition of 'Budboi'.

We are honored to have Gavin officially join the Do Not Sit Family, even though we always considered him a part already.

Michael Orbit-Kept the Faith

Born and raised in the Seattle area and always surrounded by different types of music. My personal musical journey took me from 80s synth-pop, to early rap & hip-hop, metal, grunge, punk, and then industrial music, before finding house, techno, and the underground Seattle rave scene in the early 90s. After going to my first rave in 1993, I was absolutely hooked, started collecting vinyl, and bought my first set of Technics SL1200MK2 turntables and DJ mixer in 1995. 

Collecting vinyl and DJing led me to Platinum Records Seattle, an underground vinyl store,  where I worked from 2000 to late 2003, during a massive resurgence of rave culture in Seattle. During that time, I played multiple raves at old venues like NAF, Studio B, Club Insight, Club FX, and clubs/after-hours like Aero Space, Noc Noc, Liquid Lounge, Club Contour, etc. 

At the end of 2003 I starting working for Rane Corporation WA, a pro-audio/ DJ mixer company that was based in Mukilteo area from 1981 until the closing of the factory in 2016. While at Rane from 2003-2016, I worked as a Product Specialist, Technical Support, Product Clinician, Social Media Manager, Artist Relations, Beta Tester, Project Manager, and Product Design, and the designer of the infamous Rane MP2015 and Rane MP2014 rotary DJ mixers. 

Fast forward to today, I am still DJing, still raving, and now throwing underground parties in the Seattle area (ifykyk 😘). I'm a resident DJ for the Diffusion crew, Brit Jean Presents, and Blue Moon. I've been producing music under the name "Double Helix," a musical duo with my good friend Rob Ali, with two releases out (so far) on Deep Contour Music, and Seattle's own Uniting Souls Music!
