Circularity

This song was a turning point for me.  After writing hundreds of songs but recording very few I pumped out Purple Crush and Listen over one weekend in 1997.  They were really more sketches of songs but the simpler concepts made it easier for me to not feel bogged down in the detail.  That was pivotal in my thinking and launched me into a period of greater creative productivity.    The lyrics for Purple Crush come from a poem that was inspired by the cover of a Thomas Merton Book. 

Purple Crush

Recorded at The Dutchman in 1997.  Though it's quite a simple guitar part, I always loved the chord and rhythm pattern for this song.  It's an unusual chord form with the root moving back and forth.   The semi disjointed lyrics and cadence of the vocal also hit a solid mark for me.

I sent some guitar loops to my friend @lostcatmagnet and he sent me a sound collage to which I added more drums, many guitars and bass. The result is 'Round Glass Ratchet' - a journey from ambiance to a frenetic noir spy thriller. It'll make a movie in your mind.

Round Glass Ratchet

Welcome!  Here is a site where I will be uploading music that I have created over the last 40 years.  It will be a mix of songs I've written, bands I've been in that I co-wrote songs, bands I've been in that I played guitar and co-produced songs from a singer-songwriter, tons of my electronic music that I've collaborated with an amazing singer, and a few bands where I played drums......It'll be a process, but check back as more and more music will be added.....
