This one's named after an ongoing DC comics title that ties into the Green Lantern books. 

Red Lanterns is currently being written by a dude named Charles Soule, and he's doing a crazy good job at the moment. All of his books are great, so go check him out if you want a healthy dose of fantastic comics.

Named after Matt Kindt's Mind MGMT comic, which is one of the best creator owned titles currently on shelves. The watercolour art is fantastic, and the storytelling is awesome. 

If you like serial mystery shows like LOST, you'll love Mind MGMT. Especially for all of the little easter eggs scattered around each issue. Mind MGMT is a book for those who want a little more depth than that which most big name comics contain.


Mind Management

So here's something unusual. I scored an 8-bit game not long ago and, to my delight, the game happened to be western-themed. So that's what all of this is. In order, we have:

- Title sequence
- Level 1
- Level 2
- Level 3
- Boss
- Kill Screen

There's a few more tracks not added, like fanfare, but no one wants to hear that. I composed all of the SFX too but those have been left out.

8-bit Western Jam

Note: This track was previously titled "Well This Sucks"

Here's why.

I thought this track sucked before I had a little pep talk with a fellow chiptunist. He gave me some great advice and told me to live with the imperfections and wear them with pride. It helped me see that, while I'm not happy with this track, thats one opinion out of many. Maybe you think this song doesn't suck. Really, that's up to you. Not me. So enjoy!

This one's titled after a book I've been doing some catching up with called East Of West. It's one of Hickman's creator owned works. And it's fucking awesome. Highly recommended for western sci-fi fans.

East Of West

Titled after an Image Comics book called Think Tank, written by Matt Hawkins with art by Rahsan Ekedal.

David Loren is a smartass, egotistical genius working for DARPA on classified projects, many involving life-taking machinery. It's a story about a crisis of conscience, and is gives a fairly disturbing look at weapons research and and development.

All of the tech (most of the tech) used in the stories is based off of actual technology, much of which will blow your mind. Even better, the back of each issue has a bunch of notes and explanations of the technology used in the story. Fans of science and technology should be reading this for sure.

So here we have a new track influenced by a comic book series called LIBERATOR, which tackles animal abuse and rescues. LIBERATOR follows two masked crusaders avenging animals who have been tortured and abused. There's a whole lot more in there as well. It's not only highly entertaining, but it's very relevant too. Liberator

This one was inspired by the new series from Rick Remender and Greg Tocchini. It's a sci-fi story about a family in shambles attempting to put themselves back together. Back with another non-cover composition. Evidently, it's much easier to SAY that you're going to stay away from original material than it is to actually stay away from original material.

Anyhow, sticking with tradition, this one is named after an awesome comic called Nailbiter. It's created by Joshua Williamson and Mike Henderson, and is published by Image Comics. Pretty much the best horror book on stands right now, it's definitely worth a look.

Nailbiter

Because I'm reading Secret Wars and actually enjoying it, this one is titled after the current Marvel event. The Marvel U is destroyed, and replaced with a frankensteined universe called Battleworld. A weird concept when it was announced, but surprisingly fun if you're reading the right tie-ins.

Also Ribic is on art, which means I don't have to say anything else.

I'm reading a book called The Woods right now. It's 15 issues in at the moment, and worth reading every one. If you're a fan of shows like LOST, with an ensemble cast and weird mysterious happenings in a strange environment, then you should give The Woods a shot.

Most times, artists put a lot of thought into song titles. Sometimes, that process can take longer than actually producing the track. I've produced artists who constantly renamed and revised track titles, until they were forced to go to print with whatever they had ready.

I don't have that problem, because I just twirl around in my chair and the first thing I see is the track name. In this case, it was a book by Jeff Lemire called The Underwater Welder. A fantastic example of Canadian cartooning, and something you should go buy right now. Link is below.

So in closing, I'd like to apologize to Jeff Lemire for naming a terrible 8-bit song after an excellent book. I'd also like to remind artists that while a track name is important, don't dwell. Get your shit out there.

Titled after another random book from my bookshelf, which happens to be volume 14 of Invincible. It's a pretty awesome superhero comic series created by Robert Kirkman, who is also the creator of The Walking Dead. So if you like the Walking Dead books or show, you should pick up Invincible too! Also, it's drawn by Ryan Ottley, who is one of my all time favorite cartoonists.

So long story short, I'm dishonoring an amazing superhero book with another horrible, horrible song. I have no regrets. Except for making this song and titling it after an awesome book. So essentially I regret everything.

For the two of you still reading this, You should know that I'll be releasing stem files for some of these songs shortly. A stem file is basically an audio file that only contains specific instruments. So you might have one stem file containing only the drums, another stem file containing only lead guitars, another containing only rhythm guitars, one with only bass etc... 

With these stem files, you can listen to certain instruments by themselves, and you can use them to remix the songs in an audio editing program. So if you like some of these songs and you want to have some fun with them, you'll want to check out the stem files!

I like 50's music, and I love the Muppet Babies theme song. For those of you who don't, I apologize for the middle section of this song.

Actually no I dont, 50's music and the Muppet Babies theme song kick ass.

First book I noticed on my bookshelf was a Green lantern book, and so this one is called In Brightest Day. Fitting, I suppose, since Geoff Johns' last issue of Green lantern was released this week. Johns has been the central architect of the Green Lantern universe for almost 10 years now, so it's kind of a big deal.

Another one for the originals bin. Named, at random from my bookshelf, after the 7th volume of a comic series called Y: The Last Man. It's about a plague that wipes out all living organisms that contain a Y chromosome. All except for a man and his pet monkey. It's an epic quest kind of story with great art. Highly recommended.
