Imām Abū Ḥanīfah is often referred to by the title al-Imām al-Aʿẓam, the Greatest Imām, for he left a great legacy in the science of fiqh. Despite this, the scholarship of Imām Abū Ḥanīfah is repeatedly attacked and scrutinised. For example, it is often suggested that he did not know Arabic and also lacked knowledge of ḥadīth. Thus, his credibility as an Imām is questioned and his fiqh (school of thought) are considered by some to be baseless and in contradiction to the Qurʾān and ḥadīth.

Imām Sufyān al-Thawrī said about him, ‘Anyone who hates Abū Ḥanīfah or speaks ill of him can only be one of two people, either he is completely ignorant or he is envious of him’. Imām al-Aaʿmash, a well-known Muḥaddith, once addressed a gathering of jurists and said, ‘O assembly of jurists, you are the doctors and we are the pharmacists and you O, Abū Ḥanīfah , you have taken both.’
  
A poet read in his honour, ‘They envied the young man when they could not keep up with his pace. So people are his adversaries and his enemies like the co-wives of a beautiful and fair maid who say of her that she is ugly merely out of spite and envy. So they are unable to withstand his greatness, his piety and his knowledge. And when there is no argument then the next stage is character assassination’.

Allah has created Man in a very unique form. He has given man intelligence and blown into him a spirit which makes him human. When Allah instructed the angels to prostrate to Adam (A.S) they were not just prostrating to his physical body, but rather the spirit within him. We all possess this soul yet it is often given little attention.

We indulge in many physical pleasures in this life, often neglecting our soul and depriving it of nourishment. Our souls are important, just as our bodies, in being sustained and satiated. If the body is created from the Earth then its nourishment comes from the Earth. Our souls are heavenly and therefore its nourishment must also be celestial and heavenly.

Imām Muḥammad ibn Ismā‘īl al-Bukhārī is regarded as the greatest muḥaddith of his time, surpassing the rank of his contemporaries including his teachers. He authored many books during his life including the famous 'Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī' - a book which is regarded as being the most authentic book after the Qur'ān.

This talk will detail the life of Imām Bukhārī, the talent he showed from an early age and those who marvelled at his genius throughout his life. He was tested frequently by scholars to see if he lived up to his reputation and he displayed a level of piety which reflected his knowledge. 

The unfortunate events leading up to his passing away are also detailed in this talk and a full sanad (chain of narration) is included at the end from Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq to the first ḥadīth of Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī.

Allah has commanded Muslims to fast during the month of Ramaḍān not for any physical benefit, but for the nourishment of the soul. A believer is restricted from nourishing their body during the day so that they may create a higher awareness of Allah. This element of taqwa is closely linked to ihsan - the worship of Allah as though one can see Him, or that Allah is watchful over him. 

The body has been created from the dust of this Earth and will return to it. Its nourishment also comes from the soil of this Earth. The spirit, however, is from the heavens and therefore its nourishment has also been placed in the heavens. In this manner, believers divert their attention from their bodies so that they may focus on their souls.

We may understand the purpose of our existence, but in practice it may be easy for us to become forgetful of our end goal. Allah has mentioned that we have not been created in vain and that we shall be returned to Him, but how do we maintain that level of consciousness so that we do not stray?

Taqwa is the key to maintaining a focus on this end result. Without consciousness of Allah we may often stray and become neglectful of our actions. By being aware of Allah at all times will enable us to achieve our true purpose in this life and be content with our akhirah.

It is part of complete faith for a believer to have love for the Prophet ﷺ to the extent that he should love him more than himself, his family and the rest of mankind. This love should not just be in a person’s speech, but should also be reflected in their actions and obedience to the Prophet ﷺ. People tend to make sacrifices when in love, often sacrificing the connection they had with others. The highest form of love is detailed in this talk as explained by Allah and his Rasool ﷺ. 

Love for an individual usually means that a person loves everything associated to the beloved. For this reason a person should be careful where they place their love so that it leads them towards Allah and not away from him. 

This talk finalises by showing how the sahabah went above and beyond their love for the Prophet ﷺ; not just loving him as a friend or a husband, but as a Nabi of Allah.
