SHEA Radio #079: The Hacker

Michel Amato's contribution to electronic music can barely be overstated. As TheHacker, and under different aliases, he has inspired generations of dance music fans and artists. Since his first release in 1996, Amato had a Techno phase, dipped into EBM, sci-fi tinged Electro and New Wave, but is perhaps most famous as a founding father of Electroclash. He met a kindred spirit in Miss Kittin and together they became of one the most iconic duos in electronic music, with hits such as 'Champagne' (1998) and 'Frank Sinatra' (2000) selling hundreds of thousands of records.

In 2004, Amato released his most well-recieved album to date, 'Rêves Mécaniques', and the years since witnessed Amato put out a wide array of club mutations on many leading labels, including a double LP for his own label Zone.

Today, he is as in-demand as ever, with a highly-acclaimed album, 'Le ThéâtreDes Opérations' landing on Dark Entries in 2017 and contributions to tastemakers like Helena Hauff, Erol Alkan and Veronica Vasicka's labels since. In the live and DJ environment, Amato is as revered as he is on record, playing high-profile events such as Dekmantel, Berghain, Nuits Sonores and Off Sonar.

A Modern EBM and Techno Selection Fevrier 2025 Mix

The Brvtalist is proud to present a new mix from DJ Magal. A key figure in Brazil’s underground for over four decades, the São Paulo-based artist is known for his fluid interplay between history and modernity. With residencies at some of the country’s most iconic clubs and a continued presence in contemporary spaces, Magal has shaped generations of dancefloors. His sets reflect 42 years behind the decks, featuring a wide-ranging repertoire that spans genres such as Post-Punk, Synth-Pop, Industrial, EBM, Acid House, Techno, and Electro.

This mix, recorded entirely on vinyl, focuses on post-punk and timeless classics. A deeply personal work, it marks 42 years of Magal’s ongoing contribution to underground culture—a reflection of his history, vision, and dedication to the craft.

Before the Curfew is a series of music podcasts that emerged in 2022 after the reopening of the club following the liberation of the Kyiv region. All recordings presented in this series take place before midnight before the curfew begins. Before the Curfew offers a vibrant snapshot of the Ukrainian music scene amidst challenging times, celebrating resilience, creativity, and unity through music.
