GABS003 sees Bristol's Works resident Portway join the label’s roster. With previous releases on TRAX HAVEN, Moon Rack, excess, Duckland and JUKE BOUNCE WERK, ranging from 100bpm chuggers to tearout jungle, Portway has established himself as a genre-defying chameleon. His forward-thinking sound design and innovative drum programming has gained recent support from LCY, A.Fruit, Skream and many others.

Portway takes a walk down the more percussive route in his contribution to our recently launched 2-track singles series, inspired by the likes of Sinjin Hawke, Scratcha DVA, Two Shell and Atrice. “Dropshipping” opens with a precautionary melody, descends into a flurry of metallic antiphony and is then quickly pierced by a formidable bassline complimented with intricately manipulated grime vocal samples. “Lithium Souls” combines shimmering pads with considered vocal chops and crackling drums. Beware of the second drop!

Gimme A Break Records are delighted to welcome Soul Mass Transit System to the GAB family for the label’s third physical release. Since launching Shall Not Fade’s Time Is Now sub-label with their ‘Original Bad Bwoy’ EP, D. Jason & Baby J. have consistently produced the finest in 2 Step, Speed Garage, Bassline, Breakbeat and Jungle. With releases on Locked On Records, Instinct, ec2a, Local Action and Ministry of Sound, it’s no surprise that SMTS were nominated as “Breakthrough Producer” in DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards 2022. Having worked with Bklava, DJ Q, Jamie Boy Bassline and Killa P, as well as recently joining 23 Degrees Artists and launching their own label Grand Soul Central, there is no doubt that Soul Mass Transit System is a household name in the UK’s underground electronic scene.

GAB003 sees Soul Mass at their most devilish. The record opens with the Breakbeat/UKG hybrid “Wait No More” which juxtaposes pensive vocals and harmonies with a crisp rolling break and a devastating bassline. “Lovin Me” follows with an equally sombre 2-step composition featuring the signature SMTS Reese bass. The flip side contains two of the most sought-after tracks produced by the Yorkshire duo. Soul Mass deliver a masterclass in speed garage production on “Real Love (Mercy Mix)” which has received support from the likes of Enzo Siragusa, Sage Introspekt and more. Finally, “Fly” delivers the Organ House/UKG crossover that the UK has been desperate for in the aftermath of “B.O.T.A”. First featured on Main Phase’s viral Keep Hush set for ec2a in February 2022, fans will undoubtedly be delighted that “Fly” is finally seeing the light of day.
