Born in Bonn, Germany, 1984, Andre has been obsessed with music since an early age. By the time he was 12, he was experimenting on his first mixer and a Dennon, mainly mixing hip-hop & rap while living in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. At the age of 15 he was introduced to electronic music through attending and assisting in the organization of many underground House and Techno parties in the Dominican Republic (Caribbean).

Needless to say, he was immediately captured by the sound and vibe of these events. At age of 17 he was spinning Techno and Tech-House, influenced by the sounds of Chicago and Detroit, Phoenix G, Plus 8 Records and KMS. Experiencing the drive and raw energy of the likes of Derrick May, Jeff Mills and Richie Hawtin had a massive impact on him and set his course as a DJ.

As he began to define his own sound, he took influences from Detroit's atmospherics, Berlin's clinical precision and Chicago's raw energy. At this time he was playing in local clubs on North Coast of the Dominican Republic. At 18, he moved back to Germany, intent on developing his individual sound and build his DJing career. Carving out his sound and constantly fine tuning it he has arrived at a smooth blend of House and Techno. It all began to come together in 2004, when he moved to Barcelona to study Electronic Music Production

Andre Buljat is ever absorbing the sounds, energy and vibrant atmosphere of his home city, readying himself for maximum output. He is poised to release his unique House and Techno sounds on wax, ever refining his style and always looking to take things to the next level. Currently he is working on new releases.

From the viewpoint of the inquiring listener, the music career of Peter Corvaia began similarly to that of most producers of electronic music. However, in contrast to the story of the majority of his peers, his takes a divergent path. Although significant, music production has played only a partial role in his journey to understand all things sonic. Peter has been consistently releasing music for the past decade and has managed to investigate many aspects of the world of sound, including ambisonics, signal processing, and now the biomedical field of hearing sciences.

After completion of an audio engineering program at SAE in New York City, Corvaia worked as the studio engineer at the post-production studio Charles Morrow Productions. The company’s propriety 3D playback system, the Sound Cube, brought him in contact with acoustical consultants working to fine-tune the system. These encounters left him with the inspiration to pursue a career as an acoustician specializing in architectural acoustics. A few years later, Corvaia enrolled in the program of mechanical engineering and acoustics at the University of Hartford. By the end of the program, he realized that his skills would allow him to contribute to an even greater cause: to help the profoundly deaf to be able to hear once more or even for the first time. Corvaia is now residing in Boston and is a doctoral student of the Harvard-MIT Program in Speech and Hearing Bioscience and Technology. His current research involves sound transmission through bone conduction, and will soon focus on the advancement of cochlear implant technology. 

Although his studies have demanded a great deal of time and attention, Peter gets a push with each new goal that he sets and does not take any moment consumed by making music for granted. In 2013, Corvaia completed his first full-length album 'Remainder Eight' for petFood Music. He has also released music through labels such as Circle Music, Carica, Frik:n:Frak, Biatch Corp, System Recordings, and most recently through Dance:Revolt. His next scheduled release will be with the fine folks at Sheik ’n’ Beik, who have made quite a name for themselves in NYC and beyond.

With infinite musical combinations, Simone Gatto - owner of OUT-ER and manager of The Flame Recordings - has captured the essence, energy and sensations of crowds worldwide. Thanks to his philosophical and sociological studies, Simone Gatto reinforces the underground scene by transposing energies and people's deepest emotions into his music. His strongest influences are without any doubt techno and house music, merged with his funky roots. As a result he brings an electrifying experience every time he steps on the DJ booth.

Issue 23 features a vial full of studio alchemy from Seattle’s IVVY, including versions of material they played live at Surface Tension on June 23, 2017 as well as elsewhere on their most recent east and west coast tours. Dense, layered, biotic, and alien all at once, the set builds a sound world slung between raw noisescape and tracky functionality aimed at connecting sonically and mentally with the ‘floor.  

IVVY is the project of one Madi Levine. They have released and collaborated with MOTOR Collective, Sheik ’n’ Beik, Blankstairs, and CTPAK Records. Via The Stranger’s inimitable Dave Segal: "IVVY... harness[es] the mantric power of swift, pummeling beats and beautifully abrasive timbres for maximal dance-floor freak-outs." Amen.
