Shelflife presents the second 7" release from The Fireworks with "Runaround" b/w "With My Heart" and "Asleep" coming November 26th. Limited to 300 copies, the first 100 will be available on transparent red vinyl, exclusively on shelflife.com.

The Fireworks have been busy since their debut EP in March. They have enlisted Shaun Charman (The Popguns, The Wedding Present) as their new drummer and together been playing numerous shows around the UK including the Indietracks Festival, the Nottingham Pop Alldayer and supporting The Wedding Present in Brighton. And last but not least they've managed to record three fantastic new tracks for this single.

Fans of their debut EP will be pleased to know the band continues right where they left off -- delivering intoxicating head-bobbing noise pop. "Runaround" and "With My Heart" feature Emma on lead vocals surrounded by layers of fuzz and feedback with the usual Firework's flare for crafting perfect two minute pop songs. The third track "Asleep" is a lovely closer featuring Godfrey Salmon on viola alongside Matthew's whistful vocals. We're super excited for this release and can't wait to hear what they have in store for us in the new year.

Yumi Zouma - It Feels Good To Be Around You (feat. Air France)

Mark May 27th on your calendars as Shelflife presents the return of the legendary Close Lobsters. Their new EP "Kunstwerk in Spacetime" features songs "Now Time" b/w "New York City in Space," the first new recordings since 1989. 

From Paisley, Scotland, to Portland, Oregon, via Glasgow and NYC, Close Lobsters graduated from the post-punk music scene in the late 1970s. Inspired by critical elements of the Sound of Young Scotland, Groucho Marxist Records, old NYC new wave, and anarcho punk, the Lobsters were off running. Conceived by singer Andrew Burnett and drummer Stewart McFadyen, they soon added guitarists Tom Donnelly and Graeme Wilmington and Burnett's brother Robert on bass. 

They made an appearance on NME's seminal C86 compilation with song "Fire Station Towers." This immediately opened up the group to the delights of London and soon the world and was many pop fans first introduction to their inscrutable lyrics, classic jangly guitars, and post-psychedelia melodies. The band soon released some of our favorite singles "Going to Heaven to See if it Rains," and "Never Seen Before" on Fire Records, before their colossal first album Foxheads Stalk This Land. In 1988 they joined Los Angeles label Enigma Records and released singles "Let's Make Some Plans" and "Loopholes" which were later included together on the EP "What Is There to Smile About?" In 1989 Close Lobsters made their maiden voyage over to the US to support their second album Headache Rhetoric. Also that year, a special release of "Just Too Bloody Stupid" was issued by the legendary Caff Corporation. 

The 90s were zones of indifference for the group as they decided to quietly call it a day. However, sometime in 2012 there was again electricity in the air, the original line-up reconnected and played their first shows in 23 years. Concerts in Madrid, Glasgow, and Berlin all received amazing responses from longtime fans. Feeding off this energy, the Lobsters performed another trio of shows in 2013, Hamburg, New York City and Glasgow. 

Now in 2014 they are scheduled to play the Copenhagen Popfest and to release their new single, a record where they pay homage to their spiritual American homeland, in May. Two songs that we fell in love with when performed at the NYC Popfest and reimagined over some impromtu dinner in a Brooklyn diner before the show. We are all delighted to announce our new special relationship together. Welcome to the phantasmagoria and super-modernity of Post-Neo-Close Lobsters. Yes, Close Lobsters are alive! 

The release will be available on 70 gram limited edition 7" vinyl with download coupon that includes two bonus remixes. Early presale copies will be available on ox blood colored vinyl. There will also be a digital-only version that includes an exclusive bonus mix of "New York City in Space."

Shelflife presents the highly anticipated debut album Everything Else Matters by Russian shoegaze outfit Pinkshinyultrablast, available January 13 on limited edition colored vinyl. 

Pinkshinyultrablast, are a five-piece band from Saint-Petersburg in Russia. Hailing from a city more synonymous with the State Conservatory rather than a gang of shoegaze addicts, they've been compared to Lush. But this is no mere throwback tribute - due to their sharp, icy electronics and ability to subvert the genre, bringing something new to the table. They possess not only the spirit of late 80s/early 90s British bands like Ride, but also machine-made sounds of the same era from Sabres Of Paradise or Global Communication, not to mention wider vibrations like Cluster, Popul Vuh, Terry Riley and Philip Glass. 

Disdain for a stagnant scene can often be a driving force of creativity; the band say of St Petersburg that, "we realized the local indie scene was totally boring and wanted to play something radically different." That vision has been realized - this is a sound brimming with playful melody and finely-crafted songwriting. Imagine the scope of a Caribou record, fronted by Elizabeth Fraser soundtracking a grizzly Raskolnikov crime. 

The band take their name from an Astrobrite album, an act who were, according to the band, instrumental in how they "researched spaces between ambient, heavy guitar and pop music." The spaces are what stand out, the production creates a dream-like affair, while space to breathe and reflect on the beauty of the music is accommodated. There exists a sparseness to their sound, that, in turn gives spaciousness, even expansiveness. The album is full of melodic gems, rich with complexity, while underpinned with a beauty that both beguiles and entrances. Everything Else Matters evokes the spirit of bands like Slowdive and Cocteau Twins, but at the same time remaining undeniably modern. 

Everything Else Matters is a co-release with Club AC30 in the UK in a limited edition of 500 copies worldwide with mp3 download. There will be unique colored vinyl per label -- 250 copies on orange glitter for the US and 250 on cloudy glitter for the UK.

Recorded and produced by the band itself, Airiel has just finished Kid Games, a brand new four track EP for Shelflife. Bringing in many of the elements that formed Airiel's foundation, Andrew Marrah and Chase Johnson's drum machines and synths make a larger presence. This produced a new sound that keeps the elements that make Airiel great; catchy melodies, lush guitars, danceable rhythms and lasting dreaminess. "Kid Games" also marks the return of guest vocalist Stella Tran, who's first appearance was on "Firefly" from the Melted EP of the Winks & Kisses box set. 

Kid Games is released May 1st on limited edition 12" vinyl and digital formats.

Shelflife presents The Weather's Fine, the new album by Estonia's Picnic, coming this May.

Picnic formed in 2006 by Marju Taukar, Andres Soosaar and Rivo Jaervsoo. Marju and Andres were previously in 90s indie band Dreamphish and Rivo is a current member of Seksound label-mates Bad Apples. Picnic released their first album Winter Honey in 2010 and made their Shelflife debut last year with the now sold-out tribute 7" "We've Only Just Begun" b/w "Say a Little Prayer."

The Weather's Fine features 11 tracks recorded over the past year. The band decided to take a different approach for this record, primarily using a more relaxed home studio environment and Rivo taking the lead in handling most of the initial tracking himself. They only returned to the studio for final mixing with help from friend Lauri Liivak (from Bizarre), who also worked on Pia Fraus' Silmi Island.

The warmth of instrumentation on The Weather's Fine just feels comforting in contrast to the frozen winter landscape in hometown Tallinn. When asked about the title for the album, Rivo explained, "We are quite obsessed with the weather here in Estonia and it shows in the lyrics of the album."

Picnic have become masters at blending the ethereal and indie pop worlds, surrounding us throughout the album with spacious textures and glimmering soundscapes. The stunning beauty of their arrangements are filled with immaculate dream pop guitars and Marju's mesmerizing vocals. The Weather's Fine is an album that really begs to be absorbed all at once, from beginning to end.

Stereoboy is the alias of portuguese musician Luís Salgado, now joined by Sofia Arriscado on a path in which electronic music merges with guitar fuzz to form an interesting kind of pop. It reminds us of the times when “teenager” used to mean wearing over- used jeans, trite t-shirts, dirty sneakers and unkempt hair, recorded tapes leading to re-recorded tapes and garage bands coming from real garages.
