Madly the pair only got together in the studio for fun, but quickly realised they had something special as they tapped into unique recording techniques such as placing objects on a rumbling sub, recording the rattling sound and layering it into their basses!

Alone they stood upon the roof of the world, two minds interlocked beyond the realm of their origin. Delivered into this alternate reality as separate points of consciousness, the definition of their relative distinction was for a while their only grip upon the structures of the past. Staring across the infinite horizon over the edge of their plateau, the meaning of time itself was lost in the entropy of their incarceration. In that endless expanse, the fringes of their perception eroded – stark concepts reacting and evolving in the wake of a forgotten future, bearing fresh complexity as the branches of their minds intertwined. Boundaries melted upon the shores of the present as the separation of elements lost meaning, the properties of addition relentless and timeless – towering beyond their combined mindstate.
 
Following their striking emergence onto EATBRAIN with ‘The Order’ EP in 2016, AGRESSOR BUNX tore a ragged furrow through the year with their rapid rise to the apex of the drum & bass sphere, with releases on Blackout, Trendkill, Bad Taste and Program. Fame and fortune: doesn’t everyone dream of such luxuries in our modern world? Indeed, such lofty positions seem to appear out of thin air to those who are visited by them, gifts from a gilt messenger that fall randomly upon those who do not even ask for it. What? Then, what must I do to receive such a visitation. Is it not enough that I want it? Is it not enough that I crave with every ounce of my being the admiration of all those around me? To be the object of their envious stares? So many waste their stardom, squandering it with their “effort” and “devotion” as though they’ve forgotten that they’re already famous!

Were I to be in their position, I would certainly not waste away such golden moments with such pointless work. I would sit, not upon a couch but upon a throne, exquisitely decorated with only the finest of materials. There, I would languish in my lavish lifestyle, my every need attended to by the throngs of adoring fans who would celebrate my very existence. It’s a shame really that no one notices how fit I would be for the lifestyle, the parties, the photos, the “doing nothing” all day. I’ve certainly got that last part well practiced. We’re being famous actually a job, I’d be a shoe in for the position. It's not though of course, and all the smart people know that. Some may claim to have worked for it, some may claim to have taken years to reach their status, but I know differently. I know what they say isn't true. I know it's not you that makes fame, but fame that makes you.

AKOV returns to the EATBRAIN pack with his latest EP YOU WANT IT. Following up 2017s Shapeshifter EP on the label, YOU WANT IT is the latest in a high volume of releases from AKOV across further labels such as C4C Recordings, Bad Taste Recordings, and Othercide Records. On display for the first time within the EP are AKOV’s own rap vocals, such as on the titular U WANT IT, which features a rapid fire vocal lead before launching into a chaotically warped bassline signature of the AKOV sound. The twin mixes of BLIND then contrast each other, with the SUN MIX charting melodic course marked by reverberating synth sweeps and a smoother sung vocal melody, while the MOON MIX features an elastic bassline alongside these elements. INTERSTELLAR’s electric sonic elements combine with the vocals of MULTIPLEX for a frantic audio sequence which closes the EP at lightspeed. With YOU WANT IT, AKOV displays his singular sound design & inimitable attitude in tandem with the addition of his own vocal talent for an EP that set to make an impact via the EATBRAIN label.

Everyone keeps secrets, everyone lies, and most even steal when the situation abides. Sins like these, small as they are, are an integral part of the human condition. I should know. It’s my job to investigate these things after all. I look past the lies, peer into the secrets and see the sins of all who come under my gaze, scrutinizing them from the impunity of my position and doling out the requisite punishments appropriately. It’s a fortunate position that I find myself in, for otherwise I would be counted well within the ranks of those whom I investigate.

My sins arise in the oddest of places, seeping through the walls I place around them. I take every effort to keep them controlled, locked up tightly with the key thrown away. But there is another essence inside me, one that must sometimes come out to play. Its hunger is ravenous and fed only by violence, and it drives me to madness within a crimson haze. Rising unpredictably, it bursts from its cage with ferocity as it takes control of my mind. Under its influence I am twisted & torn, a terrifying beast of malice and rage. Those around me are forfeit whether friend or foe, for the beast knows no such distinctions when it overtakes me. I wake from such moments with faint memories clouded still by that red mist, only to find the appalling truth surrounding me at every term. The word now spreads of a monstrous man, who roams the streets slaying with reckless abandon. Its this man I now track, the task of my job, but what they do not know is that the MONSTER INSIDE was me all along.

SMOOTH (also one part of TELEKINESIS) makes his solo EATBRAIN debut with the MONSTER INSIDE EP featuring four fiendish tracks in his signature style. ROLY-POLY opens the EP with a devious rolling bassline interspersed with powerful horn blasts and boisterous vocal shots. RIDE OUT features the vocal tones of MC COPPA for a quickly accelerating tune that peaks with the metallic pulsations of its bassline and rapid fire percussion in a devastating flurry. MONSTER INSIDE darkens the tone of its predecessor, with its sinister pads providing the backing for a grinding bassline that slithers through the track’s low end, whilst DEVILS HEAD amplifies this atmosphere, maintaining its sinister elements while pushing them into overdrive for a furious finale to the EP. With the MONSTER INSIDE EP, SMOOTH lands his unique sound on EATBRAIN with a devious work sure to resonate with the EATBRAIN horde.

Amidst a vast lattice of cable & wire, a sole individual worked with inhuman fervour at his craft, bearing forth a constant flow of invention unto the dismal depths of his laboratory. He had sequestered himself here in this catacomb of creation with single-minded purpose, devoted entirely to a code of his own as he endeavoured towards all that had not been done before. Without thought for life or limb he set himself frantically to his craft. Before him, every vial was an opportunity, every electrical surge a moment of bliss, and every elemental synthesis a pathway forwards into the unknown.

For weeks, months, and even years the individual worked at a feverish pace, a hermit within an ever growing den of discarded reagents and the husks of former inventions repurposed for a greater cause. For all of his creations, such time alone had begun to take its toll upon the man, and as it marched on new thoughts came to his mind. “Escape....” came first, “I must show them the way” then came second, bearing upon him with an inescapable force. With his frenzy now turned outwards the inventor burst forth from the doors of his laboratory, clutching a variety of inventions in his grasp. Bathed in the light of the world beyond, the inventor sprinted into the street, shouting of his miracles as his SANITY TRIP drove his feet.

NUKLEAR debuts his first full artist EP on EATBRAIN with SANITY TRIP. Long known as a premiere MC within the neurofunk scene, NUKLEAR has appeared on multiple collaborations across EATBRAIN as well as RAM Records, Virus, and Viper. It had long been said that the oceans were the last great frontier, that their depths held a wealth of secrets to be found and discoveries to be made. Foremost of all spoken of were the treasures that lay upon the ocean floor, relics of lost ages left by those who had fallen victim to the sea’s tempestuous ferocity held now within the stygian depths of its enormous body. There, far beneath the realm of humanity in places where even light dare not penetrate, such hoards lay open for the taking to those enterprising enough to delve the darkness. So went the fisherman’s tales and shipwrights stories, and indeed they held some truth. Yet unbeknownst to their tellers these tales were unfinished, for they lacked themselves the knowledge of what truly lay below.

Indeed, amongst the glimmering treasures of these unfathomable depths was something that shone even brighter, a glowing jewel of a luster and size unmatched by any other in the sea. Its presence was known only amongst the most wizened of mariners, whispered of only in hushed tones by their salt-scarred lips. It was said only to be seen on moonless nights adrift far from land, but it’s sight was feared by all who knew of it. Those who saw it were said to be overcome with greed, diving from their vessels in the pursuit of such a wondrous treasure never to be seen again. So ended the tales, for that was all they did know, yet far beneath the waves there was still more to show. Woe to the sailor who so dove to that fate, who knew not the horror that they would soon face. As they arrived at their treasure their pleasure became fear, for revealed was the presence of what truly lay here. A monstrous maw with razor sharp fangs and the face of a behemoth from which their treasure did hang. Trapped now in the darkness down so far below, the last light they saw was that beast’s POWER GLOW.

EATBRAIN mainstays AGRESSOR BUNX illuminate a set of four new tracks with their POWER GLOW EP, which follows their last EP Acid Mirage and recent singles on both Blackout and Bad Taste in continuing the duo’s high volume output of hard edged neurofunk. It was nighttime again. The girl hated nighttime, for its ability to warp even the most innocuous of shapes into sinister forms was the bane of her fragile psyche. As dusk fell and her family trundled off to sleep, she found herself drifting into the same familiar cycle of psychosis, wherein she would find not the rest and respite which others gained from sleep but rather a fight for survival against the forces of her mind. Knowing this, the girl sighed, and set to her vigil against the dark. It was always the same no matter what she did. She would stay up long into the morning’s early hours, under the blessing of electric light until the same useless body that catalyzed her anxious fears began to falter under the weight of passing time, demanding that she submit to the machinations of her own horrific mind. In turning off the lights, she would enter into a second phase, one perhaps most sinister of all, in which the objects of the house sprang to life in the umbral depths of night.

Herein moved shadows with impossible forms, at once standing out from and blending into the darkness that was their home. Try as she might, the girl could not make sense of them, and attempts to do so only seemed to multiply their numbers. They had never harmed her… yet, but she wondered if it was only her utmost devotion to watching their movements that kept them at bay. Worse yet was the fact that sleep would grab hold of her soon, making her vulnerable, easy prey. With lethargic frenzy she would attempt to maintain her watch, following their forms as her eyes closed further and further shut, sliding into the final phase of the night wherein she knew she maintained no control. She feared what awaited her there, the nightmares, the horrors, her worst anxieties on longest held fears brought into a facsimile of reality where she was but a helpless target of their terror. The terrors had not hurt her physically, it was true, but as the girl slipped hopelessly into unconsciousness, she wondered at the NEGATIVE THOUGHTS that she would soon face. Perhaps this had been the shadow’s intent all along. Perhaps, unwittingly, she had already become their prey.

TEDDY KILLERZ return to EATBRAIN for their first release of 2020 with the latest EP forged of their horror influenced neurofunk sound. The latest in a series of collaborations between EATBRAIN and TEDDY KILLERZ that stretches back to the label’s very beginnings, the trio once again take position at the fore of the EATBRAIN horde as they bring their all out psycho-sonic assault to EATBRAIN listeners worldwide.

The valley was a lush place, with flora and fauna of all types contained between its mountainous peaks. This way it had been for ages untold, and those who lived there wanted for not in their idyllic existence. Untouched they were by the world, hidden away in a pocket of paradise unknown to all others. Indeed, theirs was a blessed existence, but such gifts were a treasure that could not go unnoticed by all. On that fateful day, a shadow had passed the sun, and it was in the duration of this mid-day’s night that from high upon the mountain a thunderous roar did erupt. On a cold frigid wind came a new beast to the valley, with scales that glittered white as fresh fallen snow. Reptilian as it seemed, upon vermillion wings did it soar, and from its breath came the fury of deep winter’s hoar. It withered the forests that those who lived there called home, and those caught in its wake were frozen to the bone. Not even stone could stand against the great being’s wrath, and reduced to foundations were all buildings in its path. From within these ruins it plundered an invaluable hoard, taking the treasure of the valley’s great lord. With one final roar the beast then took to the skies, returning to the mountain from whence it came on high. Down below lay the valley, its inhabitants frozen firm, in fear under the shadow of that great ICY WYRM.

MIZO returns to EATBRAIN to debut his latest EP, which follows in the destructive wake of his Dust Devil EP on the label as well as further recent releases on labels including Neuropunk Records & C4C Recordings. Filled to the brim with the producer’s characteristic ferocious tones, the EP features a set of four tracks surging with serpentine basslines and deviously distorted sonics as MIZO leads the latest onslaught of the EATBRAIN horde from atop the eponymous ICY WYRM.

The sun was setting on the day, and as it did it painted the sky with a set of hues that matched the red rock sandstone upon which two pairs of spurred boots tread. With keen eyes and hands readied at their holsters, two desert roughened faces stared into the maw of the cliffside grotto that lay before them, steeling themselves for the deed that had brought them to this wild place. As they stood outside, their parched lips gave rise to gruff conversation in the last rays of the setting sun.

“Hey Sonny Jim…:
“Yeah Scruggs?”
“Let’s make this quick. Cattle won’t take too kindly to us bein’ gone ‘round nightfall, what with the kay-otes and all.”

With the assent of an “mmm hmm” from Sonny Jim, the pair burst into the grotto by the light of the moon’s first rays, assured in the knowledge that their plantoid quarry would be weaker under its reflective gaze. As moonlight fell upon the twisted forms in the cavern, the pair drew a pair of six shooters each, loaded with the selfsame rounds that they used to fell every other varmint in this wild land. In practiced tandem, the pair worked their way through the tendrils of the lesser vining monstrosities in the cavern, the muzzle flash of their six shooters illuminating the spurts of sappy ichor that erupted from the monster’s crumpling forms. In little time they stood before that self same massive varmint that had chased them from this land five months before, which loomed at the grotto’s center as the largest tree either had ever seen. It’s branches bore spined vines and oaken boughs alike, and from its barked seeped an acrid sap that sizzled as it fell upon the ground below. For this the pair had prepared as each drew a third revolver from his coat, loaded with bullets imbued with a poison made from the very land. Each unloaded all six shots with naught but a single word, and from the great plantoid behemoth a groaning, shuttering cry could be heard. The great beast withered, shrinking as it died, as did all of the lesser beings that had stood connected at its side. With collected pride Scruggs and Sonny Jim each blew from their weapons the smoky remnants of flame, knowing that through their prowess the ROOTS OF EVIL had been slain.

BURR OAK continue their ride as they lead the EATBRAIN horde further into neurofunk’s wild west with their ROOTS OF EVIL EP, the follow up to their previous release on EATBRAIN, February’s “Hawkeye” EP. Further exploring and growing upon the roots of their collaborative effort, The Clamps and Opsen once again team up as BURR OAK to deliver four tracks composed in their signature lawless style for EATBRAIN’s latest release.

“No Needs”, the project’s second and final offering, is a less rambunctious but equally striking affair. From the jump, a distorted vocal sample overlays an ominous, delay-soaked arrangement of pulsating stabs, which soon give way to an unflinching drop. The song’s piercing, gravelly bassline is interspersed with intricate percussive fills, throaty growls and synthesised yelps to make for a wholly exhilarating listening experience. It’s no wonder that the Attersee duo have already received prestigious co-signs from the likes of Drum&BassArena, Data Transmission and BBC Radio 1’s René La Vice, with plenty more accolades sure to come.

Opening with staggered, rapid-fire basslines and sparkling synth arpeggios, the uncompromising “Outlander” soon hurtles toward a frenzied drop. Dominated by gnarled, saturated basslines which warp at a breakneck pace, the song is garnished with syncopated kicks, bursting snares and pitched percussion. Making deft use of dynamic range, it lulls into a tense, ambient breakdown before striking again with the same gravity and with a number of new twists and turns to boot, making for an intense number in a similar vein to last year’s popular Clamps collaboration “Discrise”.
