After honing their trade in Southampton, drum & bass duo Gerra & Stone have made several successful forays into the wider world over the past couple of years. Regular players at Dispatch and Proximity, the pair have been turning heads in the RAM camp during 2015, dropping a killer jungle VIP of 'L.I.E.S.' via the label's recent RAMsterdam compilation. Now returning for their second effort for sister label, Program, Gerra & Stone have set thrusters to full once again!

A-side 'Dnt U' is as techy as they come, all retching, mutant synths and hard-nosed drumwork. Yet the outfit's love for the old school still features. Sly, junglistic elements peep through the gaps, giving the track extra depth and character.

Earlier this year BMotion dropped 'Bear Hug / Vice City' on Viper Recordings. The single was met with a rapturous reception from both ravers and DJ's alike. Smashing out clubs from Cardiff to California, 'Bear Hug' was championed by luminaries such as Matrix & Futurebound, Brookes Brothers, Calyx & Teebee, Dimension, S.P.Y, ShockOne, Metrik, and Drumsound & Bassline Smith to name just a few.  

Already an established and respected member of the Viper family, BMotion returns with his third and arguably largest release on the label thus far in the form of 'Arabia / Ignition'.

'Arabia' is full of eastern promise and percussion. A beautiful and almost mystic vocal floats over the build until it hits you like a sand storm with rolling beats and an extremely rude bassline.

'Ignition' lulls you into a false sense of security with its lush and cinematic melodies before the massive bassline abruptly deals you a slap across the face and demands you wake up and listen.

BMotion's continued assault of high quality bass and beats has seen him win fans in very high places. There’s something about Document One’s highly individual style which has resonated with DJs and ravers alike. Throughout 2016, their releases took up almost permanent residence at the top end of DnB download charts and in the sets of the most discerning selectors. They de ned their own sound, culling elements from multiple genres and weaving them into dancefloor mayhem. And, if this release is anything to go by, they’re going to do it all over again in 2017.

The ethereal horns and vocal sample in the intro set the scene, building an edge of tension. It’s got all of that smoky moodiness that Document One can deliver, combining tech darkness with a jazz sensibility. Delicate hints of percussion mark the way, and there’s still no hint as to whether we’re heading towards laid-back cool or road-hard savagery in the drop. It’s Document One, after all, and they can do either.

The pilot quickly glanced either side of the cockpit, peering out through the oil-stained reinforced glass that separated him from the thick clouds of the permasmog that he and his fellow skykillers were now gliding through. Death’s whisper rode quietly on their tails, the promise of a further step into the unending cycle of violence as irresistible to it as the concept of the freshly slain under its ivory digits. The pilot had acquired a sense for its presence, drawing fierce consciousness as mortality skewered him viciously against the present. In a moment, they soared out of the thick wall of pollution and the skies lit up with stark abruptness as plumes of burning oil billowed from his brothers’ vehicles, their screams and burning skin engulfed by the rapid fractal destruction of their mechanisms. Death screamed with wild abandon at his hind, as he slammed a nitropellet into the furnace and smashed the rapidstart of his engine. The propeller whirled immediately into action, rocket thrusters firing and pushing him deep into his seat as the steam snaked through his nose ventricle and he became intertwined with his infernal engine, enveloping him in its toxic carnage. His hand moved to the bomb-bay switch, doors opening and a stack of murder rolling outside with the reaper swift behind, ready to collect the souls of the sunworshippers below, the infidel for whom the power of the perpetual engine is forever beyond.

The depth of the forest was unknown to those who lived at its verge. Shadows cast from the dense canopy seemed to reach out towards those who passed close by, wisps of darkness unfurling and twisting around the limbs of the youngest that dared to play at its sinister edge. The oldest stories of its roots passed across the creaking voices of the town pensioners hunched in the safety of others, discretely whispered and shot through with fearful looks. The allure of that dense and ancient place stretched back eternal, and bitter consequence waited for those who breached its dark heart.  The crew ignored the nonsense of such crones, pulling the carts of equipment under the cover of dusk until the sounds of the town were but a memory. The speaker stacks were raised against the night, strings of lights hung between the trees and purity of disturbed bass rolled against the surrounding trunks as they disentangled themselves from the mundane fiber of the lives they left behind. Twisting against one another as they let flood serotonin delight, they ignited an orgy of sonic symbiosis as the rave found its wings and took flight. The spores drifted imperceptibly into the clearing from the darkness around, lodging without discomfort in the eyes, ears and noses of the gathered young. And then the screaming started, the undulating mass of the gathering turned inward… devouring itself as limbs were separated from bodies, necks ripped as skin tore loose and the blood flowed freely over the gnashing faces of those left alive at the KILL PARTY…
