About 70 million years ago, a species lived on earth that was different from all others.

Even the small predators had no chance and were completely wiped out by the catastrophe.

ProtoCode has been releasing cutting-edge bass music from across the globe since 2018. This July, the Perth-based imprint is set to release "Cybernetics", a collaborative offering from label 
co-founders Esym & Dead Zodiac.

Between them, the two have released music on labels such as Kill Tomorrow, Santoku Records 
and Cyberfunk; but "Cybernetics" marks their first releases on ProtoCode in just over a year; 
following on from Esym's "Universe / Desolation" & Dead Zodiac's "The Fall", the two of which 
dropped back in March 2020."Cybernetics" features three Drum & Bass gems that easily 
balance screwface inducing sonics, deft melody work and precise rhythmic patterns.
EP opener and title track "Cybernetics" kicks off with an ominous melody that gives way to a 
regal brass riff before launching into heavyweight bass lines. Basslines that feel primed to tear 
up sound systems worldwide. The track conjures up imagery of rain falling on a neon-lit 
cityscape, with the serene melody that glides among the rumbling low-end amplifying the sci-fi 
feeling of "Cybernetics".
Next up is "Dominion". Here, an intricate rhythm section underpins warbling bass, sure to get 
limbs moving when dropped in a dance. The minimalism of "Interference" closes out
proceedings. Its power comes from bass hits that pulsate throughout the track, while Esym & 
Dead Zodiac showcase more of their impressive rhythmic work with technical percussion lines 
that shine throughout the track.
"Cybernetics" will land 30th July exclusively to Spotify and Beatport, releasing on a wide range 
of digital outlets 13th August.

It began as a whisper, spoken in low tones in multiple languages in the uneasy night. Talk of a place where the greatest of mecha roam, gathering amongst the desolate ruins of a war prepared for and never fought. The first explorers returned with stories of low frequency weapons, harvested from the ruined depths of a subterranean complex. With these re-engineered into towering relays capable of pure sonic carnage, the lands began filling rapidly with pilgrims from distant places, offering themselves as captives to their own higher mental states. What was once a mere whisper has now become legend, with this meeting of the mightiest clans bringing forth the greatest frequency warriors to stake out their claims. 

EATBRAIN casts a long shadow across the fray, setting seasoned label veterans L 33 and MINDSCAPE into the hordes of adrenaline-fuelled ravers alongside recent label additions MACHINECODE and AGRESSOR BUNX - all of whom have LPs coming on the label as well as appearing at the festival. A tight manifesto is stretched across the 4 rowdy and high-energy tracks that make up the EATBRAIN GOES TO LET IT ROLL, with the irresistible audio manipulative skills of Eatbrain crafted to exquisitely tear up the dance. Amidst a vast lattice of cable & wire, a sole individual worked with inhuman fervour at his craft, bearing forth a constant flow of invention unto the dismal depths of his laboratory. He had sequestered himself here in this catacomb of creation with single-minded purpose, devoted entirely to a code of his own as he endeavoured towards all that had not been done before. Without thought for life or limb he set himself frantically to his craft. Before him, every vial was an opportunity, every electrical surge a moment of bliss, and every elemental synthesis a pathway forwards into the unknown.

For weeks, months, and even years the individual worked at a feverish pace, a hermit within an ever growing den of discarded reagents and the husks of former inventions repurposed for a greater cause. For all of his creations, such time alone had begun to take its toll upon the man, and as it marched on new thoughts came to his mind. “Escape....” came first, “I must show them the way” then came second, bearing upon him with an inescapable force. With his frenzy now turned outwards the inventor burst forth from the doors of his laboratory, clutching a variety of inventions in his grasp. Bathed in the light of the world beyond, the inventor sprinted into the street, shouting of his miracles as his SANITY TRIP drove his feet.

NUKLEAR debuts his first full artist EP on EATBRAIN with SANITY TRIP. Long known as a premiere MC within the neurofunk scene, NUKLEAR has appeared on multiple collaborations across EATBRAIN as well as RAM Records, Virus, and Viper. It was nighttime again. The girl hated nighttime, for its ability to warp even the most innocuous of shapes into sinister forms was the bane of her fragile psyche. As dusk fell and her family trundled off to sleep, she found herself drifting into the same familiar cycle of psychosis, wherein she would find not the rest and respite which others gained from sleep but rather a fight for survival against the forces of her mind. Knowing this, the girl sighed, and set to her vigil against the dark. It was always the same no matter what she did. She would stay up long into the morning’s early hours, under the blessing of electric light until the same useless body that catalyzed her anxious fears began to falter under the weight of passing time, demanding that she submit to the machinations of her own horrific mind. In turning off the lights, she would enter into a second phase, one perhaps most sinister of all, in which the objects of the house sprang to life in the umbral depths of night. 

Herein moved shadows with impossible forms, at once standing out from and blending into the darkness that was their home. Try as she might, the girl could not make sense of them, and attempts to do so only seemed to multiply their numbers. They had never harmed her… yet, but she wondered if it was only her utmost devotion to watching their movements that kept them at bay. Worse yet was the fact that sleep would grab hold of her soon, making her vulnerable, easy prey. With lethargic frenzy she would attempt to maintain her watch, following their forms as her eyes closed further and further shut, sliding into the final phase of the night wherein she knew she maintained no control. She feared what awaited her there, the nightmares, the horrors, her worst anxieties on longest held fears brought into a facsimile of reality where she was but a helpless target of their terror. The terrors had not hurt her physically, it was true, but as the girl slipped hopelessly into unconsciousness, she wondered at the NEGATIVE THOUGHTS that she would soon face. Perhaps this had been the shadow’s intent all along. Perhaps, unwittingly, she had already become their prey.

TEDDY KILLERZ return to EATBRAIN for their first release of 2020 with the latest EP forged of their horror influenced neurofunk sound. The latest in a series of collaborations between EATBRAIN and TEDDY KILLERZ that stretches back to the label’s very beginnings, the trio once again take position at the fore of the EATBRAIN horde as they bring their all out psycho-sonic assault to EATBRAIN listeners worldwide.

What had once been but a small village had changed, coating itself in the metallic materials of a new age born of the prosperity that was wrought by its forebears, those who had bound demons in stone so many years ago. The elements of fire and brimstone with which such creatures once threatened the village now lay bound themselves, claimed and wielded as tools that had wrought the stairsteps of progress from the ruins of the city’s troubled past. As progress had waxed however, time waned, and few left still remembered the obelisk which lay hidden at the heart of their city, encased within a monument to victory over the realms’ more worldly foes. Within however, those foes of old had slumbered, keeping sharp the memories of their magical imprisonment. Outside, time had passed, and now arrived back to where it had once been. Thus with the waking of the demons is stone, the time of DIVERGENCE did once again begin.

It began subtly, as the influence of the demons seeped out from the ancient obelisk, transforming the visages of the metallic heroes who were their former jailors into subtly more monstrous forms. From the obelisks dark and rotted core seeped a sinister demonic poison, and ichor that worked its way into dark places both familiar and new. With it came the demons, who slithered out of their forgotten prison and found refuge amidst the smoke and flame now welcomed by those who had forbade them long before. As their power and number grew, their essence enveloped the city, immersing it in a sea of acrid darkness that choked living beings and the light of the sun with equal tenacity. Caught within this abyssal miasma, the minds of the city’s inhabitants corroded as their bodies mutated into horrendous forms, a slow, grueling process that spared those affected not a single horror. As day and night ceased to pass within the haze that strangled the city, the demons emerged from their dark places, assuming their de facto rulership over the city which was now carved in their image. Thus it was again that the world of the living was changed, therein by the darkness from which DIVERGENCE came.

EATBRAIN continues their DIVERGENCE compilation series with DIVERGENCE III, bringing together a monstrous roster including a surprise last ever appearance by the legendary FOREIGN BEGGARS produced by KILLBREAK, and label veterans TELEKINESIS, AGRESSOR BUNX, MIZO, THE CLAMPS, DISPHONIA, IHR, L 33, NAIS, COD3X, LIVEON, KUTLO and novel additions DISASZT, SHADOW SECT, SCREAMARTS, CHASER.
