Whether sitting in the corner of a coffee-house or dodging the lights of a main concert stage, he is always the consummate professional. The headphones placed by his parents around his mother’s womb blasting Beatles music must have had a lasting impression. The Tacoma, WA native first started playing guitar after hearing the sounds of the early 90’s emanating from Seattle. Armed with a few classic rock riffs learned from his father, he enrolled in the high school jazz band and began taking private lessons. His peers and elder statesmen in the Northwest area quickly took him under their wings, exposing him to rhythm and blues, jazz, funk, hip-hop and soul music, as well as the grittiness of “real-life” gigging, alongside the formal training he received from college and musical theatre experience.
Now with almost 30 years playing experience behind him, Hargrove has developed a vocabulary and sound uniquely his own, yet still accessible to everyone. He has appeared as a sideman for many local artists, both live and in the recording studio. For the past 20 years he has been active in the role of music education as well, privately offering guitar and bass lessons, featuring custom-tailored curriculum for each individual student, ranging from young children just starting out to adults hoping to realize their musical potential.
