This month I'm glad to host @missmoon for the second hour of the show with a mix from abstract break beat to futur jazz and house.  
Djing since the end of 1990's MissMoon was a real activist for electronic music in the south of france, inspired Detroit techno and Chicago house. She's also from my hometown and I've played one of my first gig with her back in the days so it's quite symbolic to have her in the show 🙃
i'm still amazed to discover that this part of france has known the golden age of rave parties and electronic music when i was a little baby - looks like I was definitely not born at the right time.

i've took care of the first part of the show with music from Jéroboam, @l-imperatrice, @smilingc, @ishkero, @backatcharecords @gintonicorchestra, @STR4TA, Renee Geyer 💜 and many others!

Ever since Covid ended I started the tradition of welcoming the new year by a fresh DJ set called “Live From The Utopian Void” - two hours of electrifying tunes that showcase the club sounds that excite me right now. It’s meant to spread uplifting vibes in times that feel quite dark - metaphorically and literally. It’s about the uplifting enthusiasm of a good rave, the joint togetherness of the dance and the positive energy it can create. I knew before I even asked him that McGuiness was going to dig up some of his weirdest and deepest records for this mix - not only is he intuitive at gauging what his audiences need next but he's a magician the way he levitates the perfect record from the crates - effortless. McGinnis and I have been friends since I joined the Madison based JAMS party in 2021 and forged our friendship in a number of high-octane B2Bs opening for many midwest favorites like Jeff Swiff, Christian James, Madison's beloved Jiggy, and more.  He never fails to crack me up while he captures the dancefloor in a story told through his cavernous crates.   

In this 80 minute all-vinyl escapade he demonstrates a wide musical range with some of his wonkier, moodier, and more contemplative tracks blended to perfection - a DJ who plays true to the season and the atmosphere while never compromising his diverse yet consistent sound. 

If being a nearly 100% Vinyl DJ (who rarely repeats a track), a Technics enthusiast (collector, repairman, AND broker), a party starter (Wax Appeal, JAMS), and a weekly radio host (134 and counting episodes of "The Spinzone") sounds like a lot of work you might be surprised to hang with the mastermind of it all - he's chiller than a cucumber and approaches his work with an unmistakable air of sprezzatura. 

McGinnis has been on this grind for over ten years and shows no signs of slowing down - now juggling shows in the three midwestern cities he's made a name for himself: Madison, Minneapolis, and Chicago. “Workless & Quadro” were born out of a series of regular sessions we have at Mark’s place in between our everyday jobs – little creative islands within our daily routines. The title track got its name because one of us happened to be workless at that time – and maybe that brought a certain freedom, both musically and mentally.
For Workless, we drew inspiration from the slower sets we love by artists such as Caleesi & Sarah Kreis or Mira & Chris Schwarzwälder – sets often built around pitched-down versions of faster tracks. Our goal was to create music that would naturally fit into that kind of downtempo atmosphere, without the need to slow it down.
Quadro, the second track, originally started at a faster pace. But as we worked on it, we realized there was a more laid-back, deeper downtempo version hidden inside. Instead of asking someone else to remix it, we decided to do it ourselves – turning our own faster production into an organically flowing slowhouse piece.
