Lightning in a Bottle 2023 Artist Spotlight

Akka Pilla, which means "bass (of a voice)" in Choctaw, is what I have titled this mix I did for Caravan (6/2/23). I brought not only my bass and midtempo music to this event, but my knowledge and ear for Indigenous sounds of what is now known as the American continent. I expanded this mix with sounds from all over the world that includes Southeast Asia and the Middle East. 

"CARAVAN is inspired by the true-life historic Silk Road that wound its way through Europe, Asia, and Africa. Along this route, there was a mingling of cultures and backgrounds that provided a platform for them to interact, come together, and contribute to a newly created global market. We have the same vision to create a global connection, this time through music."

A Brief Utopia (A project by Jinjé) A Brief Utopia was born from an EP released earlier this year by Jinjé (aka, Lee J Malcolm from Vessels) on Scene Unseen. Stepping away from his usual production duties and focusing more on his passion for live drumming and percussion instruments. This was the starting block for much of the composition on the this record. He quickly realised that this would be a brilliant thing to do live and reached out to fellow musicians Danny Templeman (Submotion Orchestra, Gentleman’s DubClub) and Nathan Moseley (Fwar, Brolin) to put together a high energy show aimed at clubs and festivals alike.A Brief Utopia brings a colourful, vibrant and visually engaging experience. Drawing on a love of music from around the world focused through a lens of live drumming, tuned percussion and psychedelic synth work.

Sherpa Slim is a versatile sound artist, producer, and DJ based in Los Angeles.  Her mixes are curated with the intention of getting you out of your head and into your soul.  With a genre-fluid style, she blends a mix of deep healing sounds and mantras mixed with progressive, melodic, and tribal builds that take you on a dynamic, introspective journey.  Expect the unexpected as Sherpa is always pushing the limits and bending the rules.  For Sherpa, music is medicine and her main goal is to generate the feeling of love within and around you while putting you in a deep, meditative trance.  


Sherpa Slim has spent the past 10+ years designing and composing sound and music for theatre, film, and other mediums including podcasts and art installations. She brings those skills to the decks by layering different melodies, vocals, singing bowls and loops seamlessly that will have you wondering when the transitions even took place.  She draws on her background in storytelling and merges it with her affinity for deep grooves to create a full experience with each set.  


Sherpa has been seen floating vibes around at venues like Station1640, Catch One, Wisdome, Rouse Yoga's Inward Fest, Art Bar, SADE and Social Desert Camp. You can catch Sherpa Slim live with her monthly residency at Pattern Bar with her collective: Internet Sensations LA, and on twitch as a resident with the awe-inspiring Femme House Community.
