They step out from the crowd
Look all around at everything that's gone down
Resist the urge to run
Pick up the pieces one by one
Put them together so they can see where they went wrong
But there's no answer, it's just how it is

In the crowd
In the dark
We all hunt the spark
We start slow
And then we run
But in the end we're only one

Caught this one on the way up through to consciousness after a deep sleep.
The refrain sat in that space just after a dream and just before full awareness. Hearing it, I chose to stay in that space long enough to roll the refrain on repeat and try grasp it. Once I had caught it and understood the structure, I proceeded to surface into the world. Still groggy and holding onto the refrain, like holding a vapour, I rolled over and sang it into my phone. As I began to work on it the rest appeared, rolling out all at once, giving full form to the sound.

Sometime in Summer 2014 No 01

Have been spending a lot of time working under the piercing sun this past month, dust up my nose, wind burnt lips, with time between hammer swings to look up and watch the world drift over the fields.
The clouds are enormous puffs holding nothing but air and yet look so dense you would swear a knife could slice through them, cutting the clouds in two, making the pieces fall to the ground.
High above in the pine trees, a flock of ibis croak, resting, watching us for a while before they continue on there way to deliver souls. The galahs swoop in for a chat and quickly dart off, chaotically dancing around each other in as they make their way across the sky. In the fields the big wet noses and curious gazes watch me while I work.

THE SONG

THE STORY
Surfacing through waves, every experience of the water breaking across the skin of my face runs though my memory. There is no ending, only eternal memory, as the beginning or start never existed. The air pressure and water play against each other, rolling the colours of the sky around, refracting and distorting the spectrum.
Under water there is no need for sight as the sensation of water holds me, the bubbles slide up my skin, the density suspends me and for a moment I hang in space. Then the ocean rejects me and I return to air.

Sometime in Summer 2015 No 02

I see the wind fall in and past my window.
Thoughts are picked up, from the drifters in the street below, twisted and spun into the crackle of the air creating a swirling spire of debris. Broken leaves snapped from the branch, dance on the draft between the glass gullies, ascending the height of high towers in seconds.
Thoughts spoken at dusk will be blown away by dawn.

Now we need to jump right off the edge
Loose sight of this shore for a very long time
I’ve put on my wings, I’m ready to jump again
I won’t get swept up in the sky
I’ll choose a point and fly to my new home

Jumping the spaces, leaping from one to the other. It is the space between the leaps that blurs the perception of existence and where beauty can be found, in nothingness.
