We're very happy to present you a contribution for Blank Wave from one of the most promising up-and-coming artists right now: Zaatar زَعْتَر 

Her music is the peculiar combination of both her origins, Moroccan and Belgian. She finds her inspiration in the post punk and EBM movement of the late 80s and early 90s. Zaatar زَعْتَر's tracks are therefore built around a gritty and rough baseline that sets the mood for frenetic body dances. Melodies and sounds inherited from her home country Morocco complete her soundscape in a way that is her own. During her DJ sets she invites the public on a captivating journey from light to darkness, an oscillation between joy and melancholy sometimes punctuated by oriental melodies.

"Abiad Al Layali" is her latest drop on Ritmo Fatale and a massive EBM infused banger including voice samples of a recording from her childhood in Morocco. Already on heavy rotation on your favourite club night: Blank Wave ;) Another piece of advice: Don't sleep on Zaatar زَعْتَر's unreleased track which you'll find somewhere in the last quarter of this phenomenal guest mix!

Blank Wave Guest Mix 011: Zaatar زَعْتَر

Hello folks, after a short break on Soundcloud and some fulminant Blank Wave parties with Perel, Shubostar and Lauer, we're back again with a highly anticipated double feature: Welcome Andi, the New York City-based DJ and producer, who is also founder of the dark synth and industrial party and label, Synthicide. She contributed this marvellous exclusive mix for our Blank Wave series and is also playing her debut in Frankfurt on our event on Saturday, June 16 2023, at ono2 accompanied by Shia LaBiff. 

Andi now holds her ninth-year residency at Brooklyn’s notorious venue Bossa Nova Civic Club. Her aesthetic combines her devotion to underground 1980s industrial, EBM, new beat, and sleazy synth whose dark beats create an exciting soundscape that is unarguably danceable. She has DJed all over the world and is known in niche music circuits for her ability to mix together older tracks with new ones to create a diverse and unique set. Additionally, Andi is part of the ItaloMatic crew, a resident at The Lot Radio, and a resident DJ at the dark 80s new wave night, Music For the Masses.

Her own productions aim to challenge the expectations within the confines of the masculine EBM genre, often focusing on the ideas of revenge and strength through a woman’s perspective. Andi released her first EP, Corpse to Corpus, on aufnahme + wiedergabe in 2020, the Torque Force split EP with Randolph & Mortimer on Mecanica Records in 2021 and recently the EP Compelling Evidence on a+w. Now available for pre-order via Mannequin Records is her Parafernales EP feat. Machino.

Number 13 in numerology portrays focus, independence, creativity and a secure foundation. So does our latest guest mix 013 by Skelesys. The Argentina-born, Berlin-based producer, DJ, and live act, is a captivating artist who weaves a tapestry of shadows and distortion to express the profound essence of the human experience through his guitar. Drawing inspiration from genres as diverse as post-punk, wave, and future sounds, Skelesys creates a fresh and distinctive sound that is entirely his own. With a deep-rooted appreciation for hard rock, sci-fi, and horror, he crafts haunting melodies and raw emotions that transcend boundaries. Blank Wave Guest Mix 022: DCSIS

25 is the number of our latest guest mix! Therefore we have landed something special for you. It's our very first b2b set with none other than Moderna & Joyce Muniz! Thank you for providing us with this 2h exclusive mix, recorded live at this year's Garbicz Festival. But that's not all, we have also implemented a brand new design for our mix series! A real treat to start the week with!

Even though Moderna & Joyce Muniz should already be a household name to most, let me give you some details on who you're dealing with here: 

Moderna's style is described as a dark heady blend of Dark Disco, Electro, Acid and Techno with wrought darkened vocals that has become her signature distinction. With her unique blend, she has got a contribution on The Matrix 4 Soundtrack by Tom Tykwer on Warner Brothers Records and her discography also includes three EPs with Mexican-based artist Theus Mago. Now residing in Berlin, the Los Angeles transplant gained momentum in Europe while working on new productions, touring and focusing her energy on hybrid label and radio show ‘Brave New Rave’.

The metaphor of life as a journey is deeply embedded in most cultures. But it’s particularly apt for Joyce Muniz. Born in Brazil, she moved to Vienna in her teens and now splits her time between there, where she has her studio and a show on national radio station FM4, and Berlin. She started her career as a DJ and MC at Vienna’s Flex club, then found fame as a vocalist, touring alongside Major Lazer, before dedicating herself to production, supported by labels such as Exploited, Get Physical, Permanent Vacation, International DJ Gigolo and Pets. Most recently she took her music on the road, performing live with different orchestras across Germany as part of the Synth Live project, the first woman to join them. All this is alongside continual DJing, recently touring Australia to tick off playing every continent – bar the less-than-club-friendly Antarctica. Now turn up the volume and spread the word!

Blank Wave Guest Mix 025: Moderna & Joyce Muniz (Live at Garbicz Festival)

Hailing from Paris with Bulgarian roots, Karassimeon is obsessed with Disco and EBM, hence his motto “Glitter & Leather”. 
He has released a string of tracks on Toulouse based label Ritmo Fatale in 2023, delivering his distinctive blend of Cold Wave, EBM and Italo. Beyond the initial support he was granted by Kendal and Pablo Bozzi, his productions are gathering growing support in the scene by the likes of Marie Davidson, Curses, David Carretta, Avalon Emerson and Jennifer Cardini. 
Relentlessly researching new soundscapes in his studio, Karassimeon will premiere his live electronic show in November 2023.

Blank Wave Guest Mix 028: Karassimeon

We welcome another great talent and new Blank Wave family member: France based Charlotte Boisselier alias Cate Hortl is combining her fascination for the energy of the clubs and her passion for haunted melodies of dark Pop.

After a period of creating with the dazzling Ambeyance and Oktober Lieber bands, she has now been working solo for the past three years, carving out a more intimate path and bringing long standing explorations to life.

Feeding her inferno with 80s influences, she conjures up modern Italo, heavy-footed dark Pop, galvanizing EBM and ecstatic Techno in a stormy atmosphere, fusing melancholy and joy, dance and introspection.

By appropriating these registers and their contradictions, she has put together the exciting first EP “Smog”, released in the fall of 2021 on Ritmo Fatale. Just after, she released “HEX”, on the Warriorecords label. More recently, two of her new tracks were released on the Club Forever label, and she took part in the latest compilation by New York label Samo Records.

Blank Wave Guest Mix 031: Cate Hortl

No. 33 is made by our friend Reyk from the Netherlands, who is passionate about (Dark) Disco and founder of the Amsterdam-based platform TANK Kollektiv as well as TANK Radio. It was in a little café in his hometown, where we met and found out that we had a lot in common - he shares the musical love as a DJ through podcasts, small-scaled events, and (inter)national performances. His inspiration comes from a variety of genres such as: (Dark) Disco, Trance, House, and everything in-between. Currently he is also working on his first release as a producer, so stay tuned and whenever you're in Amsterdam, check out his event schedule!

Blank Wave Guest Mix 033: Reyk

On the bridge between San José, Costa Rica and Berlin, Germany, Ignacio Rosa, producer, vocalist, DJ and label head behind DISCOTECA NEGRA, is standing in crafting synthetic and dark soundscapes that embrace the essence of the 80s decade which created the groundwork for the developments that lead into the early 90s.

Ignacio plays around the influence of his punk roots, resulting in a canvas where classic and a raw ethos converge, showcasing material on his own record label and personal timeless favorites. He succeeded notably well in mix no. 40!

Here comes another energetic mix from overseas! No. 41 has just been recorded in Buenos Aires by the Argentinian queen of dark sounds Abby Knives. The singer, producer and DJ has prepared a stunning mixture of EBM, Industrial and shades of Wave for our series. Blank Wave Guest Mix 041: Abby Knives

We proudly present our new guest mix no. 42 by a huge multi-talent: Kim Peers has a background in the high end fashion world. She’s born and raised in fashion capital, Antwerp, where she started working in the 90’s with Inge Grognard and Ronald Stoops. She soon traveled the world for several high fashion magazines, runways and campaigns, such as Vogue, Prada, YSL and many more. To this day she’s still having fun with modeling in fashion. 

She also has a background in music. The EP “Tell Me More” was released under her own name on DJ Hell ’s International Gigolos Records in 2004, with remixes by Mt Sims and David Carretta. The remix of David Carretta appeared on a compilation from Dave Clarke in 2005. In 2012 she started a No Wave-Punk band called Crimpers they released a 7” in 2012 on Dennis Tyfus’ Ultra Eczema records.
In 2022 a remix by Dana Montana named "Speedkiller" was released on He, She, They Records. The original track named "Sunseeker" by Kim Peers and Mathieu Vandekerckhove's (guitarist in Amenra) Cold Wave band, Skemer, is to be found on their first album at Avant! records. 

Throughout the years she also enjoyed djing. Meeting the Drag Me To Hell family felt like coming home and somewhere around 2018 Mati Drome, the founder of DMTH, invited her to become a resident DJ at the Drag Me To Hell raves. In 2023 Graftak, fellow resident at DMTH, and Kim started their own event, Club Solitaire, fueled with Dark Disco, Post-Punk, Italo, Ebm and sorts.

Kim Peers' DJ style varies between Electro, Dark Wave, EBM, Dark Disco, Techno, occasionally Hard Techno and anything that works for a dark party. Depending on the line-up and the style of the event
she loves to adapt bpm and style.

We're looking extremely forward to seeing her dj as well as playing live with Skemer on Grauzone Festival in Den Haag in a few days! Until then, mix no. 42 runs on a continuous loop.

Blank Wave Guest Mix 042: Kim Peers

Originally from Brazil and currently making waves in Berlin's dynamic music scene, Paty Vapor is a multifaceted artist known for her roles as DJ, curator and event producer. 

She is part of the Italian label-collective Slow Motion / Wrong Era and co-founder of the female-focused event series 'Wisdom Tits & The Mad Express presents'. Holding a residency at the Berlin club Sameheads and at Blum in her hometown Sao Paulo, she regularly showcases her sound at the pinnacle of Berlin's venues, across Europe, and in Brazil, solo or as one half of the DJ duo Wisdom Tits alongside Caillou.

Her sets evoke an old-school nostalgia of the ’80s, weaving through EBM, Electro, and Industrial, smoothly blending with Synthpunk, Wave, obscure Italo and Belgian New Beat. Characterized by powerful kicks, bold basslines, ethereal synths, and enigmatic vocals. Paty Vapor's sonic tapestry is a captivating fusion of the old and the avant-garde. Blank Wave Guest Mix 043: Paty Vapor

Our next guest is well known for his unique interpretation of Italo Disco, Wave and Electro. Luca dell’Orso likes his music snappy and raw: character & authenticity are keywords in his book and the main pillars of guest mix no. 44. The Dutchman started producing music around 2015 and with well received releases on labels such as Bordello A Parigi, XXX, Red Laser Records and Wrong Era he’s rapidly making a name for himself in the underground dance scene.

For both his DJ sets and his own productions, Luca tends to alternate between melancholy and the well-known joyous melodies of Italo Disco. Even though Luca’s focus is rather niche, his music has frequently been played by some of the most well-known artists in the dance scene like The Blessed Madonna, Dixon, Âme and Palms Trax.

Apart from his solo work, Luca is co-initiator and curator of the Nijmegen based Italo/Electro-inspired club night TUTTI. Keep an eye on our friend Luca. You'll get to hear a lot more coming from this big talent in the future!

Blank Wave Guest Mix 044: Luca dell'Orso

Getting started with no. 046 for our Berlin special week. Two individuals from two collectives representing on Blank Wave. First one up is T.H.B.X. from the Skarabaeus project, which is focusing on its very own event and podcast series. Skarabaeus' founding member T.H.B.X. is a musician who creates a unique connection between different genres through his DJ sets and live performances. His musical palette is so broad that it ranges from Ambient, EBM, Wave and Post-Punk to Electro and Techno while deliberately breaking down boundaries and creating captivating soundscapes.

"Music should be shared, because you never know whom it will help". The hope belongs to xenophilia.

After 15 years of experience as an event hoster, curator and DJ, Berlin based Desolate Discotheque established himself in the European Techno-EBM-Wave scene.

Back in 2019 he fulfilled his dream by starting his own independent cassette label Crave Tapes and created a platform for new and well known artists from all over the world.

The inspiration he draws from 80's underground electronic music and the goth culture is manifested in his exorbitant, authentic and excessive style - a wild mixture between EBM, Industrial, New Beat, Synthwave, Post-Punk and some Techno. Blank Wave Guest Mix 046: Desolate Discotheque

Giulia Gutterer, original child of Italy's Bolzano mountains and land of their infamous cow’s milk, has migrated the cream of Italo to the centre of Berlin's club scene.

Equally obsessive about Hi-NRG, Downtempo, New Beat, Dark & Nu Disco she quests through the dirtiest depths of the internet and record stores for rhythms so inviting that you can't help but bathe, kick and writhe in the sludge and dust with her. She's raised iconic dancefloors worldwide with a style that is an eclectic swag of sex, humour and psychedelia. A collision of expansive beats and seductive evolving moods that have hypnotized Berlin's audiences at Berghain's Panorama Bar for Italorama, Cocktail d'Amore, Salon zur Wilden Renate, Revier Südost, and Sisyphos to mention a few.

Though she's “just a DJ, not a f***ing neurosurgeon”, she is the rock and caretaker of Wrong Era and Slow Motion organizations and parties all over the world; notorious, sweaty meet-ups for all the "not-too-hard tunz tunz" music lovers.

From the Italian seaside town of Trani, Domenico Ventura - aka DayVentura - is virtuously making his debut on the electronic music scene from a meticulous study of all that has gone before. His musical journey began with the influence of his father's 80s electronic music taste. This early exposure laid the foundation for his intricate exploration of various genres, including Funk, Hip Hop, Metal, Punk, Chicago House, New Wave and Techno.

The eclectic mix of influences defines his distinctive sound, which has already reached several dancefloors from Italy up to the decks of Arkaoda in Berlin with Slow Motion Records in the format Memory Dance.

Over the years, with the participation of other members, he built Insert Coin: an event reality that brings not only music, but also all the Italian and European 80s imagery translated visually and sensorially into an 8-bit video game to clubs.

His music blends elements of Italo Disco, Synthpop, Electro, EBM, New Beat, Acid House and Techno, resulting in a hypnotic journey through the realms of synthesized elegance and the raw power of retro drum machines, displaying a deep appreciation for sonic diversity and a commitment to creating immersive experiences.

Blank Wave Guest Mix 052: PERRY

Kutkh Jackdaw is a Scottish producer and DJ, now based in Brighton, whose productions and mixes take influence from a wide variety of different genres, from Post-Punk, Dark Wave and EBM, to Synthwave, Industrial and Techno.

He uses a range of techniques including a heavy use of inventive sampling, combined with extensive use of vintage 80’s hardware. His 'Sweat & Thunder EP' was released on Dark Disco, with tracks also released on Lunacy, Of Dolls & Murder, N.I.M, and Sonidos Subterraneos, mixes on various podcast series, and an appearance on Strict Tempo.

We're back once again with a souvenir from France! Petrvs is a DJ and hardware live performer/producer based in Paris. As a DJ, he proposes dark intensifying journeys ranging from downtempo and dark disco to heavy EBM. As a live performer, he offers loops and tracks driven by powerful acid basslines with a setup of vintage synthesizers.

Petrvs is part of the duo Supertubos, a full hardware live project since 2017 and founder of the label Kasa Obake Records, which is focused mainly on hardware productions. Enjoy our mix no. 54 and keep the machines running!

Blank Wave Guest Mix 055: Kurt Kjergaard

Simone Besana aka O.P.S. is an Italian DJ and producer with an unbridled passion for Italo and House. His trademark is a soft spot for cosmic and (proto-)futuristic sounds and he is often referred to as a compulsive researcher of rare sounds and records.

Hailing from the frigid city of Surgut in Russia, Velax brings a narrative from the existential realm, having crafted music under various aliases for nearly a decade. 

Fatigued by the dichotomy of truth and falsehood, good and evil, Velax transcended to a metaphysical plane to weave his tales in mix no. 57!

Welcome back! Today we would like to introduce you to a long-time friend and colleague - Mute Mode Maker Psycho-Jones has been a DM Fan for 40 Years and a DJ & Promoter for 3 Decades. 

Mute Mode is one of three pillars of a multidimensional vision of book/reading, soundtrack/performance & event/news channel. It reflects Psycho's longterm experience with hundreds of events across Europe and always delivers a flexible range of flavours plus a strong visual Impact of stylish artwork, outfit & decor, too. 
Starting in 2017 as a DM & Mute Records tribute vinyl only kaliber at 8MM Bar Berlin, it grew quickly. 

It's a versatile construction that works in a wide range of variations & is not to compare with classic DM or 80s parties. PJ was invited to national & international DM fan events & was part of many official DM release & aftershow parties in Berlin, Frankfurt, Switzerland, etc.
Psycho is working on his own tracks right now under the alias "Adoniskörper" inspired by experiences in the DM universe & beyond. Yet to be released.

This Mute Mode set was recorded live at Schick Mainz & includes many of PJ's alltime faves, discoveries, vintage & modern. Enjoy!

Blank Wave Guest Mix 058: Psycho-Jones

A wind of revolution is blowing through the underground music scene. Mystery Kid definitely doesn't fit into any box. The two-faceted DJ and producer keeps pushing the BPMs of Dark Disco, navigating between muscular Italo, Rock-tinged EBM and percussive break kicks. 

After scouring the major regional events of 2023, such as the Made Festival (Rennes) and Astropolis (Brest), Mystery Kid quickly set out to conquer Paris, performing at We Love Green and Madame Loyal festivals, the famous Badaboum club, the iconic Sacré and landing a residency at Rinse Fm.

Always eager to share, she now has her own show at Disco Suicide (Berlin) and is a member of the Radio Vacarme club (Brussels). Follow this little alien and enter in her dual dark universe on synth waves!

The Robot Scientists are Markus Schneider and Stefan Maurer, two music connoisseurs, DJs and vinyl collectors from Saarbrücken, Germany. They are two of three behind Emerald & Doreen Records which they founded in 2011, with releases on the edges of Italo Disco, Dark Disco and Indie Dance. 

They also run the premiere and DJ podcast series Something Spæcial since 2013 which is one of the leading indie dance channels on Soundcloud. As DJs, they spin a highly energetic dark & brightly bouncing „all killer, no filler“ mixture of melodic, futuristic and psychedelic Indie Dance, Playa Tech and Space Disco.

Johana, a DJ and graphic designer based in London, launched her career as part of Belgrade’s DJ duo Banda Panda, known for their unique style blending various genres into a dark yet vibrant mix. 

She has become integral to Belgrade's underground electronic scene, shaping its evolution by booking and promoting leftfield international artists and collectives who previously hadn't performed in Belgrade. Johana has curated several party series, notably F-Society, dedicated to showcasing local female electronic DJs and music producers. While she has performed at various venues and on radios in London, her current focus is exploring the realm of music production.
