Dengue Dengue Dengue (@Dengue) have an enviable ability to whisk together the traditional and electronic. Their debut LP La Alianza Profana was a stellar example of just that - a cumbia-cum-electronica joyride dip-dyed in all the right amounts of psychedelia and mystique. 2014's follow up project, Serpiente Dorada EP was no less of a trip. And now with July 2015 here, the Peruvian pair are providing a sneak peek at their next move. "Murdah" is four minutes of footwork-paced hysteria that showcases a step up in tempo. Unrelenting drum pounds, a percussive tribal backbone and rapid-fire vocal chops become locked in an aural bull-fight that's both infectious and dancefloor-ready.

El Búho returns to Wonderwheel with the first taste of his new collaborative album "Ramas," co-produced with some of his favorite artists, friends and family around the world. This first single "Nevar" is a collaboration with French artist Didacte, and features swirling, beautiful textures around a slowed down 4/4 beat, deep bass and chopped of vocals building into a late night dancefloor jam for the open-minded. "Ramas" drops worldwide on March 27th.

"Ramas" (branches in Spanish) is El Búho’s third album of original material and stands for a celebration of the art of collaboration. Featuring 19 collaborations with artists from 12 countries, the album was born organically out of collaborations, mutual appreciation or a desire to experiment and try something new. 

Some of the tracks were started in person, such as "Sky City", born out of a spaghetti-western jam in Thornato’s Queens studio or "Gaviota" inspired by the the seagulls of Brighton following a shared show with Rumbo Tumba in the city. Meanwhile others such as "Elefta" with Hungarian producer Stas or "Kuuma" a track made with Finnish multi-instrumentalist QOSQI were created over long-distance with the producers never actually meeting face to face. The album also contains tracks from long-term friends and collaborators like Chancha Via Circuito, Barda and Wonderwheel head-honcho Nickodemus. 

Musically the album references the blend of Latin American traditional music with original electronic music on tracks such as "Resiliencia" with legendary Chilean producer DJ Raff, an homage to the recent protest movement in Chile, or "Absolut," a track sculpted from an unfinished melodic idea by Argentine electro-folk trio Tremor. Meanwhile songs like "Nevar" and "Kif Kif Kuf Kuf" with Didacte and Kraut, both part of the Shika Shika collective, take El Búho’s sound in a new direction, embracing a more melodic or impactful and rhythmic electronica. 

At its heart of "Ramas" was Perkins’ desire to challenge himself creatively, forcing him to see his own ideas and production style from a different angle or see ideas started in one direction come back completely transformed by the collaborator. The result is at once surprising and diverse but El Búho’s signature sound and aesthetic is the thread that runs through all of the tracks, the trunk to each branch. 

Carrying on the spirit of collaboration, El Búho made an open call for collaborations with dancers & choreographers in his community. Overwhelmed by the response, the album is accompanied by 18 original choreographies by dancers and dance groups from 12 different countries, from Mexico to Taiwan, South Africa or the Galapagos Islands. Each chose the track that most inspired them and shot a video of their dance in a unique and beautiful natural location, in doing so creating yet more ramas or branches for the project.

The first single from Thornato's forthcoming album "Escape Plan", Out Here is a Dembow mashup infused with Brazilian choro melodies and percussion. Thornato teamed up with Brooklyn based Accordion player Joshua Camp who plays with Chicha Libre and One Ring Zero. Thor Partridge is the globally acclaimed producer known as Thornato, who’s perked ears over the years for his seamless fusion of wildly distant sounds and sensitive balance between the contemporary and the traditional. In 2013, he released a track called ‘Gaita Gaita’ via ZZK records, an infectious flute-woven banger (listen to believe it), which became an instant dancefloor hit and has, to this day, been sampled by thousands of producers. His debut album ‘Bennu’ was released in 2017 on Wonderwheel Recordings and received praises from the likes of NPR, Insomniac, Xlr8r, and more, catapulting him onto prestigious stages around the world, from Boiler Room in Mexico City to Fusion Festival in Germany. A self-proclaimed ‘sonic hoarder’, Thornato is obsessed with recording sounds, and does so in a way that’s genuine to their roots. He continues to travel the world finding delicious sounds to put his spin on, and can currently be found working on his next album.

‘Eso’ sees the percussive wizardry of Consulado del Ritmo in collaboration with the Venezuelan singer Gotopo. A relentless amalgamation of 160bpm djembe grooves, solid 808 kick drums, deep and sultry vocals and synth stabs feed-backing on tape create a driving blend of African percussion and footwork with a subtle touch of dub techno.

Following a widely acclaimed first release with DGTL Records, Satori (@satorimusica) returns to the Amsterdam-based label with brand new music. No stranger to the festival, the Nijmegen based producer also known as Djordje Petrovic has delivered his mind- altering sets to DGTL’s global editions since 2015. As the perfect follow-up to his 2018 EP ‘Yam’, his latest release consists of two melodic and spiritually infused tracks ‘Mori Shej’ and ‘African Bang’. The EP is set to release on February 26th 2021.

With an ear for incorporating global influences to his music, what sets Satori apart in the electronic music world is his effortless ability to merge seductive trance with transcendent dance and rhythm: creating melodies from the piano, kalimba, kora and guitar (to name a few). This unique manner of merging organic influences with dance and club music is something that is ever-present in his music, and even more so on his latest release.

The first track on the EP, ‘Mori Shej’ is a clear amalgamation of folk influences interwoven with electronic landscapes. It is inspired by Satori’s favourite Hungarian Roma song, having listened to it since the age of 15. The track came about through a detailed search on different versions of the song, where he stumbled upon one version from song collector and artist ‘Peia’. The impact of this particular version was so powerful, that Satori contacted Peia for a collaboration. The result of which quickly found its way into his live-set and the track was born.

Profound inspiration is something that is frequent in Satori’s productions, with his second track on the EP ‘African Bang’ following suit. The track is grounded in an energetic yet earthy interpretation of African soundscapes - with strong nuances of dance and movement. It was brought to life when Satori came across some rare African vocals while visiting record shops in London. They made such an impression, that he recorded them as samples. After some experimentation in the studio, he added a groove that came to serve as the pulse of the track. In Satori’s words ‘I feel this is a never-ending groove, and absolutely love it’.

The artwork for this release is a special one-off collaboration with Dutch photographer Bastiaan Woudt. Woudt and Satori have a long-lasting friendship formed over the love for each other’s work. The friendship is a big source of inspiration for both and their paths have crossed frequently over the years, making this collaboration a perfectly fitting one.
