Released as part of Sounds and Colours' 10th Anniversary Fundraising Campaign this compilation features new, rare and unreleased music from across Latin America, including exclusive tracks by Orkesta Mendoza with Mexican Institute of Sound and Calexico, a first listen to Monte, the new project from Bomba Estereo's Simón Mejía, brand new music from Chile's hugely influential ESDLCP, two acoustic recordings from Brazil's Kassin (including a beautiful Kraftwerk cover) and many original songs created exclusively for this compilation, as well as other new tracks and rarities.

All profits from this album will go towards Sounds and Colours. After 10 years of existence we are currently raising funds to make Sounds and Colours an even better resource for discovering Latin music and culture, and to ensure our survival for another 10 years (especially in light of the lost income happening as a result of the current lockdown). In that way, we intend to retain our status as a vital platform for Latin American musicians, film-makers, artists, writers and other creative souls to find an appreciative audience.

Sounds and Colours: 10 Years Anniversary Compilation

Selva Bifurcada - Nillo Feat. Luis Quetzal & Unchi

An argentinean producer/luthier and a British producer/environmental activist joined by the love of traditional music and slow electronics, under the premise of “music without borders”. This led to the birth of the Shika Shika collective some five years ago but also their collaborative project, HIstory of Colour.
Since 2013, Agustin Rivaldo (Barrio Lindo) and Robin Perkins (El Búho) been working together under the premise of finding and tuning their crossover sound as History of Colour.
After the unexpected success of their last EP “ Calidoso”, History of Colour is back to present their debut album, “Antumbra”.

These two producers, who have each made a name for themselves in the Latin American downtempo electronica scene, have been slow-roasting this eight instrumental track release for the past two years. Since they started to collaborate, their creative processes have always been done remotely. Though this album started like this, they took the opportunity to come together in person for different sessions.

On the album the duo explore a new path, one that envelops the essence of their South American musical inspirations with darkly happy melodies and psychedelic arpeggios. Featuring German talent M.RUX, frequent Shika Shika collaborator, and Portuguese composer MaguPi, “Antumbra” writes the next chapter of this musical brotherhood.

Shika Shika Collective will also release the project that encapsulates the beginnings of the collective on vinyl for the first time.

In Especies Afines, Quixosis explores tempo duplicities, combining disparate species of rhythms into synchopated, polyrhytmic doublecounts, that are both slow and fast, that anchor down thick and fluctuating ambiences layered in tape feedback and games of time. With rhtyhmic elements of footwork, dub, ambient, breakbeats and DnB, Especies Afines are an uplifiting and energetic series of tracks, full of detail and bass heavy rhythms, and deeply enveloping ambient cushions that give off an energy that is both hot and calm like an bonfire, transparent and liquid, like a quicksilver prisma.
