Pipe & Pochet in collaboration with Gio Israel present you Without borders VA Compilation.
Bridging the ancient and the modern, Without Borders is a collection of tracks inspired by live recordings of musical masters from the Middle East region. With over 20 years of travels through different world traditions, Gio has dedicated the past years to recording ceremonial and traditional sounds from around the world and more specifically the Middle East. Now, some of the world's brightest talents, including some new and emerging artists, took these recordings and created their own versions inspired by these sounds. All proceeds of this album will be donated to Musicians Without Borders, an NGO providing children in areas of conflict with musical education. You can find artists from all over the globe contributing music to raise money for this cause.

There are no doubts that Nicolas Jaar is a legend, that Andara is gold, but regarding Carminho, whom most of you probably do not know, she is one of the most amazing Fado singers alive, and my very favorite female singer for many years . It's hard to put in words the magic of her voice, the soul and perfection of her singing, and most of all, the heritage of Portugal and Humanity that Fado music represents. We are delighted for having such piece of art and sharing it with the Downtempo Community.

This Ep contains 3 tracks where every song have a different meaning and language; The first track take position as an Intro Edit song and we go straight to Brasil transported by the unique voice of one of the biggest master in music under my opinion, Mr Caetano Veloso; the second one we jump in a higher BPM and country, yes I will drive you now to my land in south of Patagonia, exactly to the Wallmapu (south of Chile), land of one of the last and aboriginal standings "Tribes" we can still find on this planet ... they are still alive and I try to spread they living essence of life with respect and devotion; this is “Mongetun" which means in Mapudungun (they language) "Re-born, back to life" a sign of never give up ... 
For the last part of our sound adventure, we go to Tucuman, land of Mercedes Sosa, she Inspires me with her powerful voice since I was a little child, today I brought to you "Canción del Indio" talking about the sad part of the conquers taking they lands, that is the explication for the musical progression in the track where I try to describe internal emotions and mixing with a bit of history, conscience to finally reach freedom and silence as the last track. The sound of a distant time and place. Rough, green landscapes, rivers and the music of leaves blown by the wind, enticed by the beat of a drum or a kultrum. 

The strum of a charango is revived decades later, finding space in the silence between electronic beats, in a stillness where anything can happen: a crack, an electronic bass or just a pause in time. 

On Estelas Argentine producer Cecilia Gebhard AKA Barda revives three pieces of music from her home continent, each from a distant time, place and author but sharing the limelight together for the first time and creating a new dialogue between them. Rarely, if ever, did Alejandro Camara, Hermanos Berbel and Manuel y Julio Gómez Carrillo share the same stage. 

Barda carefully unites these tracks, revisits them with a dexterity, skill and respect for the originals, putting them in a new context and highlighting their ability to evoke the landscapes that inspired them, this time together, looking out from under the same tree.

We have noticed one thing over the years of playing shows, meeting artists, exchanging music and having conversations with people all over the world. That we are surrounded by a community of musicians, producers and music lovers which acts as an inspiring, uniting force. For that reason this fourth Shika Shika compilation is called Union or Unión: "the action of joining together or the fact of being joined together".

These are 13 tracks of music without borders, music that unites, music that brings together different styles, rhythms, influences, languages and cultures to create something richer, something fresh, something different. That is how music evolves and has always evolved, uniting sounds and creating something new. 

We are really happy to present lots of artists who are new to the Shika Shika collective alongside some old friends. Hard to categorise so we let the tracks speak for themselves.

We hope you enjoy our homage to unity, thank you for the support and thank you to all the talented artists for sharing their music with us!
