Alex Musatov is a violinist and singer based in Buenos Aires since 2011. Russian by birth and Argentinian by choice (although also having a grandfather who’s originally from Argentina), he started out as a session player moving freely across all kinds of musical generes (tango, indie, folk, punk, electronic) to this day appearing on around 100 records and touring in more than 20 countries around the globe. His anti-academic approach to violin-playing is driven by his urge to explore new musical horizons every day and is the reason he started writing songs exclusively for violin and voice mixing folk, gothic and neo-classical influences.
This collection of four musical moments is inspired by a bittersweet feeling of not knowing where you belong (Home), toxic relationships (Eye of the Storm), crossing all kinds of borders (Frontier), and dealing with hypocrisy (Kingdom of Dust).

All sounds without exceptions are done with violin and vocals.

Shika Shika is very proud to present Mas Aya’s “Still, Flowing” - a 4-track EP that touches on themes such as family, intimacy and spiritual purposes, the title itself taken from a lecture by influential Buddhist monk Ajahn Chah.

Brandon Valdivia a.k.a. Mas Aya has emerged as one of the most prolific and respected musicians in Canada, working as a drummer and multi-instrumentalist over the past twenty years. He has worked with artists such as GRAMMY Award-nominated Lido Pimienta, Bomba Estereo, Not the Wind, Not the Flag, Laraaji, Sook-Yin Lee amongst others.

While influenced by many genres, the EP centres around ambient folklore with strong references to jazz and Caribbean music. Diverse percussion, polyrhythmic drums and ethereal flutes tie the music together, transmitting calm and rooted hope.

“Still, Flowing” begins with Capullo, a track that deals with themes of parenthood and family life, even containing a sample from Brandon’s daughter playing in the background during the COVID lockdown. I’m super excited about this one and it’s out today on all platforms! . Myself and the legend himself “Master Bay” got together a couple years ago to collaborate. He threw down some inspired vocals riffing his own animal language and I think it hits the spot just right. Master Bay being 6 years old at the time shows talent can come from anywhere and I’m honoured to be the first to capture this raw and unique performance. What a legend 👑 
I showcased his mad vocal at Fusion festival playing the stem over my old Papio edit and I can’t wait to play this one out live in its full form soon.
