Piedra y Raíz es el segundo single promocional del tercer álbum de Derrok, nuevamente con la colaboración de un músico invitado. Esta vez es el turno de Sebuky, talentoso productor y multi instrumentista ecuatoriano quien en su paso por Pucón en el último verano aprovechó de visitar a Derrok para hacer música y compartir de las bondades del sur de Chile. Él viajaba con enormes bolsos cargando un arsenal de instrumentos andinos y caribeños, los cuales fueron utilizados en su mayoría en la grabación de este single.

Piedra y Raíz is the second promotional single for Derrok’s upcoming third album, having once again a collaboration with a guest musician. Sebuky is a talented Ecuadorian producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Spain, who gathered last summer in Pucón with Derrok to make some music together and share the beauty of southern Chile. He was travelling with a heavy arsenal of Andean and Caribbean instruments, being most of them used on the recording of this single.

Derrok & Sebuky - Piedra Y Raíz [Quinto Fuego]

On the back of his album Natura Sonora, Shika Shika co-founder El Búho offers up a refreshing new direction on this four track EP Tón Tón, exploring the concept of organic dem-bow. These tracks are inspired by the idea of taking a now global and commercial beat but seen through El Búho owl-ish lens, mixing his trademark natural sounds, laid-back beats and mix of electronic and acoustic samples.

The release kicks off with ethiopian jazz inspired opener “Get At You”, a nod to saxophone legend Getatchew Mekurya, before going deep into a driving collaboration with Chilean producer DJ Raff featuring scattered vocals and whirling saxophones. Sol y Tormenta features Ecuadorian MC La Mafianadina providing her kichwa flow to the Siku-bow beat. The EP ends with the refined electro-swing-bow of Marti.

Estos temas se inspiran en la idea de tomar un ritmo ahora global y comercial, pero visto a través de la lente de El Búho, mezclando sus característicos sonidos naturales, ritmos relajados y una mezcla de samples electrónicos y acústicos.

Argentinian artist Lagartijeando's ground breaking LP "La Tercera Vision" gets the remix treatment featuring some of the brightest up and coming producers from Latin America and beyond. Wonderwheel family member Gitkin delivers a piece of psych'd out guitar centered dub on "Onda", while label founder Nickodemus takes "La Cumbia de la Muerte" into hip-hop territory with all the Cumbia trimmings riding the beat. Tonga Conga (aka 1/2 of Sotomayor) delivers a killer analog Afrobeat remix of "Sideral Cumbia" with a drumbreak that could have come from Tony Allen, while Joaquin Cornejo goes into deep, ambient house territory with hints of the original Arabic vibe on "Mano de Fatima". More deep & dancefloor remixes from Barzo, Yemanjo, J.Pool and Palka & Melina on deck. A lovely listen front to back. 

Lagartijeando: Raised on rhythms of the Argentinian backwoods, Matias Zundel dips his dance tracks in country folk gold where chacareras, huaynos, and vidalas two step with jungle and electronica. Shaman chantand charango guitar loops are the backbone of Lagartijeando’s signature style. Native voices are the backbeat to percussion and bass tracks with organ melodies combining cumbia and psychedelic noise. Songs give deference to ritual and maintain respect for tradition while pushing the old into a cosmic space future. Step onto the Lagartijeando dance floor – a desert covered in a storm of stars.

In 2019 Montoya released his 3rd album ‘Otun’ on ZZK Records. His blend of Afro-Colombian Rhythms and electronic beats (featuring vocalists Pedrina and Quantic collaborator Nidia Gongora) found support from the likes of Branko, Nubya Garcia, Papaoul, and many a dancefloor that came out to see him on tour.

Montoya is a classically trained violinist who moved from Colombia to Italy in 2001 where he joined Fabrica, a “cultural subversion center”, and experimented with arts and music. His fresh take on Colombian sounds pricked up the ears of contemporaries and soon he was asked to remix Nicola Cruz, Matanza and others. 

To borrow some words from DJ Mag, “from Colombia to Treviso via music. Montoya is surely one of the most interesting musicians on the scene”.  Montoya has now invited some of his friends, from Treviso to Colombia, to put their spin on his music. 

Chilean DJ Raff was an architect of the hip-hop scene in Chile and his ‘Latino & Proud’ track was used as the theme tune for Comedy Central’s award winning Broad City.  Since moving to London his electronic productions have gained support from Tom Ravenscroft and Gilles Peterson (BBC 6 Music) and others .  Having recently released music on Dengue Dengue Dengue’s new label, DJ Raff now turns ‘Solo Quiero’ into a sun drenched summer anthem.  

Clap! Clap! has developed his own inimitable style which has seen him gain support from Paul Simon, Gilles Peterson, Future Music Magazine and a raft of others. Montoya recently remixed Clap! Clap!’s ‘Rising Fire’ and now Clap! Clap! dials up the bass and marimba on Montoya’s ‘Pasillo’.

Barcelona based Baiuca has been making a name for himself with his unique vision of traditional folk music from Galicia reshaped with club orientated electronics. His take on ‘Otun’ gives it a deep bouncy and propulsive bass line punctuated with Nidia Gongora’s hypnotic vocals. 

Kenyan field recording and experimental sound artist KMRU, who received recognition from the likes of Resident Advisor for his delicate works, has put his distinct ambient touch on ‘Perla’.  

Lorenzo BITW, Cornelius Doctor, and Delaunay offer up their experimental versions and Joaquin Cornejo revisits ‘Solo Quiero’ with an ethereal blissed out mix.
