A series of solo piano recordings registered in Belém, Brazil at a cultural centre in the Praça da república run by the Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA) downtown. I had a 1 hour window to record one evening thanks to Margaret Refkalefsky. This series of recordings took place in the moment and also was mediated by the sounds of the city. I was listening intently to the city's soundscapes while playing. My friend, musician and producer Nick Schofield, generously took these recordings and worked with them to bring out some of the rich tones that were registered simply on a Zoom H4n recorder.

How a City Is Made explores the construction site as a transforming sound ecosystem, in which building becomes a rhythmic act and the city manifests itself as a score in the making. Sounds collected from a construction site in Rome—beats, friction, metallic resonances, and voices emerging and dissolving—are electronically reworked not to abstract them but to reveal their latent dynamics. A city is not merely a collection of buildings; it is a continuous process—an unstable balance between order and contingency, design and improvisation. Just as architecture takes shape through gestures and materials, sound becomes space, and the construction site becomes a city in power—a sound organism that exists in its making.

After completing their first album FIELD REPORTS for Moving Furniture Records, Philipp Bückle and Martijn Pieck went straight into the production of their second album. 

While FIELD REPORTS was an exploration of various fictitious urban scenarios, the goal for the second album was to be even less musical without losing the narrative thread in the tracks. And while the production progressed, the feeling of being lost in stormy weather, overwhelmed by the breeze occurred on several occasions. 

So A STORM IS ANY DISTURBED STATE OF AN ENVIRONMENT seemed to be a good headline for these new creations. The little melodic fragments of the first album were lost completely for a more droning and noisy approach. Field recordings, FM manipulations and white noise became the most dominant elements. The album consists of six different sonic environments that are soothing and disturbing at the same time. 
After the album received a digital-only release by Whitelabrecs in 2023, Shimmering Moods Records now offers a limited physical edition on CD.

One of the themes of this album is, I would say, dawn, new beginnings, taking the first steps on a new journey and so on, and many of the sounds used on it were recorded early in the morning. Several feature water, be it rain or a gently burbling forest stream. The recorded sounds were then processed in various ways to create soundscapes which hopefully have something of the life and organic feel of nature in them. A commentator online once described my Snufmumriko music as ”soundscape cloth woven from field recordings” or something along those lines, and i think that’s an apt description. There’s also an almost spiritual dimension to these tracks, and I was often in a very introspective mood as I created them.

The goal was set to input sounds of life and mix them with my own sound output.

To do so, i designed a blend of computer-made ambient loops with field recordings and sound design. The field recordings where taken as i traveled from Baja California to Ciudad de México, mostly from airports, planes, streets, parks, animals and my voice. As a result, the album consists in 7 lengthy tracks of minimalistic transitions.

The structure of every track is loop-based, therefore you can listen to the same sounds at the beginning then at the end, they will repeat through the entirety of the piece, therefore i chose to call it ''Versa''. In spanish, my mother tongue, it means ''To spin around something'', and ''To set a topic or theme'', however it seemed fit to the album and applied as a wordplay to name every track.

This is the first collaborative album by Japanese composer Masaya Kato and Russian composer Denis Davydov (Valotihkuu). Denis made soundscapes with nature sounds and a variety of acoustic and electroacoustic instruments, tape loops. After that Masaya composed and played Fender Rhodes and added little bits of vinyl and tape noises. 
The track titles are named after ingredients of dyestuffs, pigments for blue colors.
