One of the weirdest track that i've got to hear in a while. Between reverbs and notes, it has something ethereal/ghostly that makes me love it.

Glåsbird is an anonymous artist, active since 2018 and with releases to date appearing exclusively on Whitelabrecs, as part of a series called A Sonic Expedition. With each edition in the collection, the artist concentrates on a different geographic location. The project emerged somewhere inside the Arctic Circle, descending to Greenland, moving onto Svalbard and then the Norwegian Fjords before most recently, on the Russian owned peninsulas Novaya Zemlya. The music of Glåsbird ranges from electro-acoustic Ambient to Modern Classical, with this artist keen on producing a range of experiments to show their full range of ideas and techniques.

We’re pleased to unveil the next destination in this series, in the form of Siberia which is a double album befitting an exploration of the largest region on earth. Glåsbird has teamed up with glaciologist and photographer Nelly Elagina who provides first-hand accounts of Siberia in the form of images and captions from her time there. In the CD packaging, a special photo booklet has been included to showcase these experiences. For the artist, their account of this latest destination is entirely imagined. The first disc sets out to explore the beauty of the landscape and its ancient history. As with previous albums, the music feels icy cold but evocative, aiming to transport you to imagine the landscape in all its splendour for yourself. The second part of the album moves into more topical territory, portraying Siberia as it is today. Shifting weather patterns and devastating climate change inspire the mood of the compositions, which lean towards melancholy, tense or dramatic reflections, rounded off with a thought provoking title.

The sound set consists of rhythmic sequences, pulsating pads, powerful gated sounds, ethereal pads and experimental sounds based on granular synthesis.

the modulation wheel plays an important role in performance and playability. This means that the sounds can be formed on a larger scale.

Filter parameters, synthesis-specific parameters such as FM and Ring Modulation, parameters in the granular section, dynamic function generators and much more can be controlled with a single movement of the mod wheel.

A rhythmically gated pad fades softly into an atmospheric soundscape, a significant and powerful pulse dissolves into a granular structure, an atonal - granular sound morphs into a tonal spectrum and much more.

Radiance Audio Demo

Once again, we’re excited to unveil another Polaroid Notes release, the fourth album by this Germany based artist in our discography. Alongside his side-project as Kraut Sounds, editions have also appeared on labels such as Büro Für Erdrotation, Weber & Alcantu and his own label Drone Works International.

In this latest edition ‘Cloud Anthems’, the music takes influence from the packaging photography, which was taken by the artist one sunny January at the Riegsee, a small lake in front of the Bavarian Alps. The entire lake had frozen over due to low temperatures in the weeks before. Later that afternoon fog rolled in and together with the sun, the frozen lake and leafless trees made a wonderful contrast. The whole scenario lasted only a few minutes before everything disappeared into the clouds of dense fog. As beautiful as the whole day was, those few moments were something very special to behold.

Polaroid Notes enjoys these contrasts, both in nature and in music too. ‘Cloud Anthems’ is a series of unique contrasts that harmonise perfectly, remaining in mind for a while after they have passed. Piano sounds and loops interact with flashes of harsh energy and strange experimental sounds from old analog synthesizers. A particular focus for this record is the VCS3 synthesiser, a portable synth from the late 60s; whilst a digital replica was used here, the artist found this to be the perfect way to express the themes for this record. Sounds and melodies flow into each other spontaneously like colours of an abstract painting, layer by layer.
