Here’s the set I made for my 9th year playing in the Fractal Forest at Shambhala Music Festival. This year has been a crazy adventure of non-stop touring around the world, but Shambhala is always the most important set for me. 

Special thanks to Blackout JA for helping me to create the “Oh Shambhala” song and his other contributions, as well as my amazingly talented friends who send me such great music, stems and acapellas to play with. Without the forward thinking creative music community, I wouldn’t be able to make sets like this. Everything is edited and changed for my own purposes, the tracklist contains all the major elements of the set.

At long last my set from Bass Coast 2022 is available for your listening pleasure my friends. 
I was fortunate enough to get blessed with an absolute banger time slot on friday night at slay bay so i decided to go full tilt all gas no brakes with this set. The energy in there was so turbo boosted this time around that i think this was honestly the most fun set i've ever had - truly the highlight of my whole year/last 3 years/life in general?

My friends and fam, very happy to present my monday morning sunrise set from @bass-c0ast this year. As you know, this particular time slot is undoubtedly a special bubble and it was an honour to be able to decorate the final sonic narrative of one of my most favourite festivals. 2015-08-07 - Shiba San @ Shambhala Music Festival, Salmo, Canada.

It was Friday night and the vibe was right. The festival this year had this comfortable energy right from the get go. I got to the Bio Dome early to check out Deep Sounds by Haana - this angelic nymph that had had everyone in the palm of her hands. Her sounds were robust and organic, the types of sounds that you feel in your soul.. Powerful downtempo bass music coupled with a violin. It was a perfect stage to step into. It was a gathering! 

Even though it was 10:30 pm, the calmness (and equipment change over) let me start the set out slow, play some of my productions that are less dancefloor friendly, and then bring the energy up. I love it when a space is unity, and I especially love conducting that unified space through sound. 

Thank you to everyone who came out, and much gravy to all the ones that couldn’t.

Hi friends! My name is Fan Fiction and I co-run Nest HQ. Starting today I’ll be launching a monthly resident mix series which covers some of the best recent tracks as well as a few hidden gems from throughout the year.

Resident Mix 001 is themed around after party vibes; something you can put on while driving home from the club or when you’ve got the aux for the couch party afters spot. Keeping in line with everything we do at Nest, this mix covers the best in all styles, from the laidback nu disco of Soda Island to the liquid D&B of Hospital Recs to the lush hip hop of Dirty Chocolate’s recent NEST release and more.

I remember the exact moment when I first heard @BigWild's music. I was sitting in my room, trading music with Chad (from Lazerdisk). "You have to check out this tune 'Venice Venture'," he vehemently insisted, "it's sooo good." The song was paired with a video comprised entirely of surf footage, setting the vibe with westside Los Angeles overtones and island-though-not-tropical influence. "The guitar riff in the song was actually recorded by his dad." If the music wasn't good enough, the fact that this song was a familial collaboration bolstered my confidence in Big Wild's then-budding career.

I was locked in from that point on. I waited like a kid by the mailbox for the comic book toy I had mailed away for, only that toy was new, truly inspired music from a musician with more potential than most in his class. Since then, he's toured with Odesza and GRiZ, joined Windish Agency and Red Light management, remixed the likes of Hundred Waters and Champagne Drip, and released on Odesza's Foreign Family Collective label. Needless to say, I had a lot of questions about his time on tour, at home, and how his music sounds so good.

As a  DJ i have had numerous unforgettable sets in beautiful settings, but my Shambhala morning sets are amongst my most beloved moments of time. I spend hours seeking out tracks that i feel will sound perfect echoing down the salmo river valley, knowing that the bulk of my sets’ attendees are essentially ready for bed, and probably should have gone to bed a couple of hours ago. I don’t consider it an issue if the dancefloor clears up while i play because subliminally my suggestion is that people come to terms with the fact that the sound is shutting off when I am done. I consider it a job to land the ship. 

This mix is not the board mix, which i believe is technically better, because originally i was slotted to play 1.5 hours but due to the fires and festival closure schedules i was only allowed to play one hour. This mix, made the night before i left for the festival, has a bonus 30 mins of music, though there are a couple of mixing hiccups which i corrected during the festival.

I am grateful to the Shambhala music festival for all they have done for me over the past 15 Shambs i have been booked to perform at. I am deeply grateful to sara lion-s, and mike hoola, for believing in me all these years and bringing my career as a designer/ vj / dj into the next level by booking me on spec, time after time. So much love for those two.

This set is called Pray For Rain. It started raining in the last 3 tracks of this set up at the ranch. I always shed a tear. Happy 20th shambhala. Thanks for being unforgettable every time.

It was a pretty tumultuous year this year… My set got cancelled multiple times due to forest fires nearby, so this set very nearly didn’t happen.
