I could tell you how long I have been a DJ, how many clubs and parties I have played, and who I have opened for; but that would not explain to you the love and intense passion I have with electronic music. 

It all started more than 25 years ago while I discovered a pirate radio station on cable FM. There was no internet at that time. It was then I first heard the likes of Depeche Mode, Yello, and Divine, to name just a few. When I heard MARRS - Pump Up The Volume, I fell out of my bed and went nuts! I religiously listened every week to this station and recorded every episode on my Dad’s Dolby cassette player, which had the ability to record two channels…you see where this is going!

From there I discovered my father had a Donna Summers album, which had “I Feel Love” on it. I listened to that track a thousand times, and too this day it is my all time favourite track. Thus began my search for dance music on vinyl. What do you think I did next? Naturally I tried to mix one vinyl record, with another track from my Ghetto Blaster onto the two track cassette recorder. It wasn’t pretty by today’s standards, but the kids at school were amazed! They had never heard this music before! I started making “mix tapes” for my friends. I would spend all my money at the only record shop downtown. I would go there every weekend and spend hours upon hours crate digging for vinyl, then come home and just listen and record. So began the journey to a life of music, DJing and producing. 

Electronic dance music expresses emotion, can tell a story, and paint a picture. It encompasses every sound created and yet to be created, every genre of music is, and can be, layered within the heart of the bass drum. There is no other music that can do this, and that is why I love it. 

On that note: It is not dance music; it is music that makes you want to dance…

SlipperyWhenWet DJs were born in June 09, when Russ & Dean discovered that while other people’s eyes glazed over at their endless music-nerd talk ,they both shared a passionate love for electronic music, and could spend hours playing tracks for each other and crapping on about electro to fidget to dubstep

Already the coolest kids on the South coast, it wasn’t too long before the DJ duo grew too big for the Wollongong pond and started to head up to Sydney every weekend, where they felt so at home they quickly took up residences at the infamous club 77( Starfuckers), and Candys Apartment.

you’re likely to hear the Slippery ones banging out the latest Jack Beats, BoysNoize, Angger Dimas, or Afrojack; all artists they list as influences, and that the boys have already shared the stage with, playing to crowds of 1500+ people at major Sydney events.

DJ’ing together for less than a year, they’ve already made their mark on the Sydney scene, and with original productions already in the works, 2010 is looking more and more like a year for getting laid and getting paid for SlipperyWhenWet…

In the major label system, driving in just one lane is a marketing necessity, but with indie label Toucan Cove (distributed by Universal Republic), nurturing creative voice and inspired but unique music is a specialty.  In Code Red, four exceptional but inherently different ingredients come together in a very special dish – the traditional, deep rooted Hip Hop style of El One, the new school hyper-flow of Manfred, the pulsating dancehall styles of Junior Dread, and the electro-pop/Hip Hop production of DJ K-Dogg.

From the sexy grinder of “Midnight” to the radio-ready “Candy Canes,” Commercial Break delivers uncompromised rhymes with unforgettable beats.  While the entire record provides great club flow, the hands-down stunner opens the record:  “Don’t Take Me Away” is a haunting, powerful, southern-infused diary of a man on the edge of a bad decision.

Code Red has built quite a reputation off of their energetic and entertaining stage shows.  They have put in the work to prove it by sharing the stage with the likes of 50 Cent, Nelly, Busta Rhymes, Wyclef Jean, Trey Songz, and a ton of other super stars.  While working on the new album, Code Red managed to stay busy touring with Afro Man, doing spot dates with Nappy Roots, and rocking numerous college and fraternity shows.  The group also created quite a niche for themselves in the sports entertainment world by drafting theme songs for the University of Louisville Cardinals football and basketball teams, the Saint Louis Cardinals, the Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Cubs.  The Chicago Bears theme song was featured on an NFL Films DVD about the Bears championship season, and the Chicago Cubs theme song was featured in a full length motion picture titled “We Believe: The Movie.”  They have also had songs featured on ESPN, MTV’s “Yo Momma,” and the Speed Network.  Add the mix CD’s “Reinventing the Game” Vol’s I & II to the equation, and it’s plain to see that the only break Code Red took was a Commercial Break.

Dean Relf hails from the South Coast of New South Wales, though he represents a landscape a little bit deeper. Influenced by a smoky brew of club heavyweights and understated innovators, Dean Relf has traversed Sydney's club landscape to set the vibe right and pass on a wealth of club knowledge to Sydney's ever-ready crowds. 

Dean has supported the likes of SIS, Tiger & Woods, Robert Babicz and Matthew Dekay alongside a raft of in-vogue tastemakers and underground inspirations. Dean holds down a residency at Sydney's Spice Cellar and is also a member of Wollongong's Parkside collective, a group at the helm of the most head-turning and exciting house party on the South Coast with very big plans for the future. Already hosting parties with H.O.S.H, Lovebirds and Maxxi Soundsystem to name a few.

Continuing a slow-burning takeover of Sydney's underground locales, the steady mix of future-classics and well-worn inspirations will continue to cover his future sets. With a habit for making a dancefloor tick well into the morning and the club-side curveballs to make it happen, Dean Relf is a name unlikely to fade out soon.
