'With their second vinyl release of 2013 Goon Club Allstars continue to carve out their own space in club-focused music, with Mssingno’s haunting debut 12” EP pitting cold, melodic synths and deftly cut vocal samples against growling basslines and off-kilter drum patterns. As well as being responsible for the huge ‘Brandy Flip’, a track played out across radio and clubs through 2013, last year the London-based producer scored some deserved attention producing ‘Drugs Don’t Work’ for masked Tottenham MC Cas (formerly Castro). His icy, romantic flip of ‘The Verve’ tune of the same name provided the ideal backdrop for a rare glimpse into Cas’ self-inflicted weaknesses and here proves to be just as effective at stirring the emotions without the aid of a vocal narrative.

Whether he’s toying with the slick ‘n’ sensual, as is unashamedly evident on the heated 808-driven opener ‘Skeezers’, or bittersweet quasi-R&B twisters on one of the year’s more unlikely watery-eyed earworms ‘XE2’, Mssingno’s first excursion on wax is earnestly dedicated to the feels; all of them. Case in point: ‘XE3’s weary-hands-in-the-air sunrise synths juxtaposed perfectly by ‘124th’s hood-up cap-down gulliness.

It may be a dangerously well-trodden arena, blending bold synths with pitch-bended vocals, but few producers in the last few years can hold a candle to Mssingno’s craftsmanship and knack for progression. Simply put, Mssingno is one of those rare ones, the ones that leave a mark and his debut serves as a bold statement of intent for both himself, and the rest of the Goons.'

Info:
Hailing from Cork, Ireland, John Daly first surfaced in 2005 on his then newly founded label, Feel Music. Since then he has recorded and remixed for numerous labels, including Plak Records, Drumpoet Community, IRR, Mule Musiq, and Francois K's Wave Music, on which he released the acclaimed album Sea & Sky in 2009.
His music sits somewhere between house music, techno, disco and dub, electronic but still very organic, and extra deep. Starting out playing in bands, he moved quickly on to his natural environment, the recording studio, and to working with machines, a love of which he retains to this day, still preferring to work with real instruments as opposed to virtual ones.
Recent years have seen the launch of a second imprint, One Track Records, focusing on more peak time sounds, and his debut as a successful live act, offering a glimpse into his past and future music, with much exclusive never to be released material thrown into the mix.
2012 will see the release of his new album “Sunburst” on Zurich's Drumpoet Community, much of which has been carefully honed on the dancefloors of the world over the past year, along with a string of new EPs, and ongoing explorations of new sounds, tempos and styles.
